A true phenomenon in the world of indie-pop, The Walters first burst onto the scene in 2014 with “I Love You So” a self-released smash that quickly brought the Chicago-bred five-piece massive streaming success, all on the strength of their heart-on-sleeve songwriting and harmony-driven sound. After building a global fan base and touring all over the country, The Walters began an indefinite hiatus in 2017, signing off with a crowd-thrilling set at Lollapalooza 2017. Just as they started plotting their return, the band found themselves thrown back into the pop zeitgeist when “I Love You So” exploded on TikTok in 2021, a whirlwind turn of events that’s generated more 10 billion global TikTok views to date. Along with reaching platinum status and climbing the charts at Top 40 radio, The Walters’ signed with Warner Records. Their debut release for the label, the six-track EP Try Again marks a major triumph, spotlighting the band’s newly sharpened songcraft while retaining their homespun charm. Ever since Jørgen Munkeby’s Shining released their now classic Blackjazz album back in 2010, it has continued to spread like a mechanical reptile slithering itself into one adventurous mind after another, bursting every brain synapse on its way. Even ten years after its release, Rolling Stone Magazine called Shining’s rendition “the ultimate remake” of the King Crimson classic “21st Century Schizoid Man”.

Munkeby comments: “I am humbled to see that Blackjazz is still turning heads and warming hearts. My intention with this record was to break down musical barriers and for the album to be remembered, and it looks like it has succeeded in both tasks! I can’t wait to celebrate raw musical rebelliousness and pure life energy with you all on this Blackjazz tour!”

A group of tried-and-true musicians got together and found the sort of camaraderie and kinship you typically only find once in a lifetime. They didn’t overthink it. They didn’t waste a second. They simply left their blood, sweat, and tears on tape—like they’ve always done. For as much as Better Lovers represents the union of former Every Time I Die members Jordan Buckley \[guitar\], Steve Micciche \[bass\], and Clayton “Goose” Holyoak \[drums\] with The Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato \[vocals\], and musician (Fit For An Autopsy/END) and GRAMMY® Award-winning producer, Will Putney \[guitar\], it really cements the bond of five friends around a shared vision.

That vision is as uncompromising, unapologetic, and undeniable as anything they’ve individually done, yet it’s refined by experience and a commitment to a future together. They’re in it for the long haul.

Jordan ended up back in Buffalo, NY, jamming with Steve and Goose during the winter of 2022. After working with Will on the last two Every Time I Die records, they shared a handful of early demos with him to produce. As the year progressed, Jordan caught Greg on the road with Jerry Cantrell in Las Vegas, mentioning the new music. Once ideas solidified, he shared them with the vocalist who replied at 3 am one night in December.

On Friday 20th October 2023, Cult of Luna will return to London to curate the second BEYOND THE REDSHIFT.

The cosmological redshift is caused by the expansion of space. The wavelength of light increases as it traverses the expanding universe. Unable to assume that we have a special place within this universe, the redshift suggests to us that everything is moving away from everything else…

We may not be able to go beyond the redshift, but we can certainly think beyond it. We are bringing together artists who expand within their space - artists who create something special within this space.

This second installment of the festival will once again run across three venues - The Forum, The Dome and Boston Music Room. Having been announced in 2021 - and inevitably postponed - the lineup remains intact to an extent but also radically refreshed: alongside the CULT OF LUNA headline show will be legendary UK heavyweights NAPALM DEATH; from the band's own label Red Creek is the electrifying French post-hardcore of BIRDS IN ROW; the chaotic hardcore of TRENCH comes all the way from Canada; whilst ŞTIU NU ŞTIU are the first band from Cult of Luna's home country of Sweden to be announced. There is much more to come.
