Jon Bowen is a veterinary surgeon who has been working with dogs and cats with behaviour problems for more than 25 years. He runs the behavioural medicine referral service at the Royal Veterinary College, where he also lectures on behaviour, and he has published research papers and book chapters on a diverse range of subjects including normal and problematic cat and dog behaviour, the social support people get from their pets, and the welfare of pets. He is a regular speaker at international meetings.

Where will Brick Lane Oktoberfest be held?

Every Friday and Saturday from 20th September until 12th October with evening sessions running from 6.30pm until 11pm and afternoon sessions from 1pm until 5.30pm.

When is it taking place?

All sessions will be over 18s only, ID will be required passport/driving license.

Is there an age limit?

We have tables available for groups of 6,8 and 10. Please email chris@trumanbrewery.com with enquiries for groups over 20.

How many people can fit on a table? Are there discounts for large groups?

Only tables of the same size can be put together as they are in different locations within the venue ie 6 seater tables are in a different location to 8 seater tables.

There will be a limited amount of tickets on the door, however we advise you to purchase tickets in advance to guarantee your spot at a cheaper price.

The sessions will be card only with all major credit cards accepted except AMEX.

We'll have DJs and The Bavarian Strollers playing through the entirety of the sessions along with crowd interactions from our host. The Bavarian Strollers will play every session, with our selection of hosts and DJs alternating sessions.

We'll be serving a healthy selection of Munich based beers including everything from the stronger festbiers to the lighter session friendly lagers. They'll be available in litre steins and pints.

Rockaoke at Juju's - Karaoke Party 

There can’t be many people with Internet access who haven’t heard the name of Studio Ghibli. It’s one of the most famous film studios on the planet, producing classics like Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke. Both Princess Mononoke and the studio’s perennial favourite My Neighbour Totoro have been transformed into stage shows. Concerts of their magical film scores draw huge crowds. But there’s a lot more to Studio Ghibli than just movies. Its art is driven by inspiration from Japanese and Western art, by energies from the streets of Japan and by the mystical qualities of its traditions and its wild places.

Helen McCarthy, who wrote the first books in English on anime and on Ghibli’s co- founding director Hayao Miyazaki, will take you on a journey through the studio’s history and inspiration, with time and space to appreciate selected artworks and a list of sources – books, websites and places to visit - if you want to explore further.

Helen McCarthy is a writer, presenter and independent scholar who was introduced to anime in 1981 and has been studying it ever since. When discussing ADHD, the links with the body and physical health are often overlooked. Research has uncovered surprising associations between ADHD and various physical (somatic) conditions, such as allergies, autoimmunity, fatigue, pain and hypermobility. Hypermobile individuals - those with unusually lax connective tissue - make up about half the ADHD population, suggesting that the body’s structural make-up may play a critical role in how ADHD symptoms manifest physically.

Drawing on themes from his book on living successfully with adult ADHD, and his long standing interest in somatic ‘comorbidity’ Dr. Kustow will take us on an enthralling journey. He will present scientifically informed, body-oriented insights about the condition, and introduce some practical body-focused tools that help regulate the emotional turbulence of ADHD. By focusing on the often neglected relationship between body and mind, he aims to equip those living with ADHD with a broader and more holistic tool-kit for life

Oscar ‘SHOLTO’ Robertson is a drummer, instrumentalist, producer & composer based in London. Growing up with a love for jazz, soul, kraut, and 60s & 70s soundtracks, his music expresses a warm array of colours, analogue instrumental grooves & euphoric sentimentality. His music career began in 2013, when a record deal took him to LA to work with producer Nick Waterhouse (Allah-Las) before returning to the UK & collaborating with the likes of Inflo (Cleo Sol), & Dan Carey (Wet Leg, Squid). He is also one half of production duo Sunglasses For Jaws.

Inspired by soundtrack composers from the 1950s-1970s like Piero Umiliani & David Axelrod, SHOLTO's debut EP, ‘The Changing Tides Of Dreams’ received critical acclaim from tastemakers including **Gilles Peterson, Deb Grant, Jyoty** & **Tony Minvielle**. The project balances unapologetic ethereal textures with a deep sense of nostalgia & longing, drawing on disciplines from the world of film & classical music, as well as jazz & experimental arrangement techniques.

In support, Scottish trio LYLO will be taking things up a notch with their pulsating, engrossing rhythms & shimmering guitars, conjuring up the glamour of Bryan Ferry’s Sensation era. Their latest album, 'Thoughts of Never' was released in May on El Rancho Records, fusing wonky, Japanese-inspired pop soundscapes with nods to R&B & soul, intertwined with ambient pads. The album was engineered & co-produced with Joel Patchett (Billy Ocean, King Krule).

The Berlin-based Afro-Jazz group was founded by producer and bassist Yannick Nolting and Ghanian percussion legend and vocalist Eric Owusu back in 2020. Inspired by jazzy and soulful sounds from past and present and classic and new sounds from Ghana and its diaspora, the 7-piece band delivers a contemporary take on Highlife, Jazz and Soul.

**ABOUT ANCIENT INFINITY ORCHESTRA**

Ancient Infinity Orchestra is a 15-member jazz ensemble led by double-bassist and composer Ozzy Moysey, based in the bustling creative city of Leeds in the North of England – home to one of the most innovative and community-based jazz scenes in the UK. The line-up includes two bassists, piano, drums, harp, bass clarinet, violin, viola, cello, 3 saxophones, oboe, flute and percussion.

Their Gondwana Records debut ‘River of Light’ drinks deep from the well of spiritual jazz and is especially inspired by the soulful sounds of Pharoah Sanders, Alice and John Coltrane – all of whom are mentioned in the track ‘Pharoah Sings’ – but also channels a certain Northern sensibility that can be heard in the music of Matthew Halsall or Alabaster de Plume.

Melodic, warm and honest this is music that is happy to wear its heart on its sleeve. This is also communal music made by friends, which offers a deep celebration of togetherness and of music-making. It’s confidently deep music, moving and meditative.

‘River of Light’ was recorded over three days and the ensemble were joined by a choir of over a dozen friends from Brighton, UK - adding a further joyous layer to the music.

Mamma Mia! We've put together an 8 piece band to soundtrack everyone's favourite racing game - whilst you play on a huge screen!

Our band will be playing all the best bits from Mario Kart through the years, including classic courses, newer tracks and the winning theme - they'll even speed up for the final lap! (don't worry though, we won't be throwing shells or banana peels at you).

You can choose to compete against others where you'll be able to fully immerse yourself in the music whilst racing - or come to cheer on your pals as they compete for the all important 'Marioke Cup' a £100 bar tab and a bucket of gaming goodies!

We'll also have more screens for opportunities to play other games on the night whilst DJ Complexion cuts together edits of famous gaming bangers in between races.

As a great Italian plumber once said...Lets-a-go!

Whilst we welcome a wide range of experienced Mario Kart players to Marioke, our events focus more on the atmosphere created by having an 8 piece band playing along to incredible music from our favourite game, with a smaller focus on the competitive side so please keep that in mind when joining us!

What version of Mario Kart will you be using?

There'll be 4 players selected for each round, consisting of 2 races. The top player overall will progress to our semi final race later on in the night and then the winners of each semi progressing to the final.

How many players and races will there be per round?

Players will be drawn at random out of a hat. To be eligible for the draw you'll need to arrive for race registration between 6pm and 7.30pm (race registration will be next to the stage). We'll then draw 4 players at random just before every round - we'll move quickly through this so please stay aware, you'll have 10 seconds to make yourself known before we move on to the next pick!

How will you select players?

150cc / normal items / all characters allowed / no smart steering / no auto acceleration

We'll have other games at the back of the room available for those who don't get selected to play in the races on the big screen. These will be included in the price of your ticket, but please play nice!
