**Justin Adams**, guitarist, producer and composer, has been a creator of wonders with Robert Plant in the Sensational Space Shifters. He’s also worked with Tinariwen, Rachid Taha, Jah Wobble, and Sinead O’Connor. Vocalist, violinist and percussionist **Mauro Durante** is best known as the leader of the extraordinary *pizzica tarantata* band Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino and for his work with Ludovico Einaudi. Mauro is a leading authority of *taranta* and *pizzica*, the thrilling trance folk music of southern Italy.

This beguiling collaboration stems from a fascination with trance rhythms and their common role in otherwise radically different musical traditions. Durante conjures thundering rhythms out of a simple frame drum while the pair execute a series of fiddle/electric guitar duets that are alternately fiery and filigree. Desert blues guitar combines with Maghreb chants, transported across the Mediterrean to the heel of southern Italy. Influences as diverse as garage rock and avant-garde contemporary classical are thrown into the cross-cultural stew.

Think North African trance and post-punk grooves with a twist of Italian pizzica.

Their magnificent 2024 recording “Sweet Release” was chosen as one of the best albums of 2024 by Songlines, il giornale della musica, Corriere del Mezzogiorno , Blogfoolk, Globofonie, Izvorišta, World Music Charts Europe, Transglobal World Music Chart, World Music Central, Podwireless – Local Music From Out There and many others.

Bassist and composer Alune Wade’s newest project New African Orleans explores the diverse connections between his West African rhythms, Lagos Afrobeat, and the immortal brass band repertoire of New Orleans. "I am delving into a world that stretches from my roots to the lost branches on the other side of the Atlantic," explains the Senegalese musician. He has distilled about 50 compositions—both originals and standards—into a dozen, and recorded an album in Paris, Dakar, Lagos, and New Orleans. "The idea first came to me during the Jazz à Gorée Festival I organized in 2014," he explains. "It got me thinking about reversing the musical journey most people take from the United States to the African continent. I wanted to head west and engage in a musical dialogue with the finest artists, both in Nigeria and the USA." The music features reinterpretations of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man," Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child," and Fela Kuti's "Water No Get Enemy," as well as original compositions that explore the New Orleans sound from Alune's musical perspective. One standout track, "From Congo to Square," featuring iconic artists, narrates the journey of brass band music from its origins in West Africa to its evolution under oppression and violence, symbolizing the enduring impact of African musical heritage.

Legendary musician, composer and singer Pedro Luis Ferrer occupies a unique place in Cuban music and social culture where he started his career in 1969. He plays a variety of Cuban music styles like *son montuno, punto guajiro, trova traditional*, and *nengon*, but his main style is *guaracha*, a vibrant genre originating in 18th century musical theatre, contributing greatly to a national consciousness during the time of Spanish colonialism.

Pedro Luis Ferrer will perform on Spanish guitar and Cuban *tres* (a guitar-like instrument), and will be accompanied by his daughter Lena Ferrer on vocals, *marimbula* (also known as *bajo de flejes*, a Cuban instrument derived from the African *mbira*), and percussion instruments *clave*, *maracas* and *guiro*.

Ferrer is considered a living heritage of Cuban culture and during his long career his songs have been recorded by such artists as Celia Cruz, Omara Portuondo (Buena Vista Social Club), Gilberto Santa Rosa, Danny Rivera and Papo Luca."

Ferrer’s lyrics are charged with humor, social commentaries and obsessive references to food, which is something that’s present in the music of some of his predecessors (“soneros” like Los Compadres, Trio Matamoros, Barbaroito Diez, etc). But it is the pointed social commentaries that distinguish his lyrics from the more trivial ones of his contemporaries. His witty, sardonic social commentary so irked the Castro regime that in the late 90s the government banned his music from the state-run media (which in Cuba means all media). In an interview published in Mother Jones, Ferrer explained: “My music was broadcast in the official media in the 1970’s and 1980’s. I made music for television and I recorded some songs that quickly took root in the popular consciousness, like “Inseminación Artificial”, a song about a cow’s sexually charged lament on the industrialization of Cuba’s agriculture. This song became wildly popular in Cuba. But at the same time that those successful favorites were being broadcast, songs of mine that the bureaucracy deemed offensive or strange were silenced. There were many controversies and arguments with TV producers who refused to broadcast the most critical songs of my repertoire. Then one day, they took all of them out of circulation, even the ones that I composed in obvious support of the Revolution”.

Hilary Gardner’s new project *On the Trail with The Lonesome Pines* celebrates the romantic mythology of the American West from the singing cowboy era of the 1930s-40s. Many trail songs were written not only by singing cowboys, but by Great American Songbook composers, jazz and film composers and lyricists like Johnny Mercer, Benny Carter, Frank Loesser, and others. A song making its debut in a Western film starring Roy Rogers or Gene Autry would often go on to be recorded by a swinging big band or the original hip cowboy, Bing Crosby—the lines between genres were, happily, blurrier back then.

The group’s live shows paint high spirited and harmonious soundscapes of the archetypal cowboy’s life on the trail—replete with pale dawns, purple hills, and the high lonesome feeling of camping out beneath a vast, star-filled sky. Says Gardner, “These songs remind us that the answers to many of life’s big questions can be found in contemplative solitude, the beauty of the natural world, and the arms of a loved one.” The group has performed to sold-out houses in some of New York City’s most esteemed venues, including Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Birdland.

Their award-winning debut album *On the Trail with The Lonesome Pines* (Anzic Records) was produced by Eli Wolf (Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Willie Nelson).

Adam Rudolph's Hu Vibrational layers global rhythms from Africa, Asia, South America and beyond with spirituals, jazz, trip-hop and electronica into a soundscape Rudolph calls "sonic mandala" to create an immersive auditory experience. When Adam and an ensemble of incredible musicians get together mystical and wonderful things will happen. Adam is well known for traversing genres and cultures, defying the boundaries of traditional music to create mesmerizing sounds that transcend time and space.

The Local will be set-up to maximize this sonic experience.

Leah Guadagnoli is an artist, chef, homesteader and creator of Fancy Feast Supper Club - a creative dinner series in the Hudson Valley. Leah is known for bringing people together through homegrown, globally inspired vegetarian meals prepared from her garden with passion, love, and a genuine curiosity for the overlapping flavors and techniques our expansive universe has to offer. Through extensive research and an ethically conscious appreciation of other cultures through food, her goal is to celebrate our commonalities and unique differences to form connections and better understand the world we share.

For this very special evening, Leah will discuss her unique approach to growing, cooking, preparing and thinking about food. Following the talk, we’ll share delicious homemade vegetarian soup, bread, compound butter and salad that she has specially prepared for us.

Jazz luminaries Miguel Zenón and Luis Perdomo present sublime interpretations of the Latin American songbook drawing from their celebrated albums, *El Arte del Bolero*, *Volumes 1 and 2 -* the latter earning the pair a Grammy Award in 2024).

The heartfelt accord between the two reveal canonical knowledge and interpretive prowess, as well as the glimmering qualities of their individual musicianship. Zenón’s silvery tone has matured and developed a more supple allure, while his phrasing is as expressive as it is fluid. El Arte Del Bolero brings out the sensualist in him, particularly on the pair’s delectable reading of Ernesto Duarte’s “Como Fue” and Arsenio Rodriguez’s “La Vida Es Un Sueño,” where the saxophonist explores the song’s melodic contours with searing emotional immediacy.

Perdomo provides the ideal harmonic and melodic bedding for Zenón’s soaring lyricism here. The pianist’s economical phrasing and graceful improvisations afford the session an after-hours vibe when lovers might sit in the corner and discreetly exchange confessions.

Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Miguel Zenón is widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential saxophonists and composers of his generation who masterfully balances innovation and tradition. He has also developed a unique voice as a conceptualist, concentrating his efforts on perfecting a fine mix between jazz and his many musical influences.

Zenón has released seventeen recordings as a leader, and has worked with luminaries such as The SFJAZZ Collective, Charlie Haden, Fred Hersch, Kenny Werner, David Sánchez, Danilo Perez, The Village Vanguard Orchestra, Kurt Elling, Joey Calderazzo, Steve Coleman, Ray Barreto, Andy Montañez, Jerry Gonzalez & The Fort Apache Band, The Mingus Big Band and Bobby Hutcherson.

Perdomo, who came to New York in 1993 from Venezuela, is one of today's most in-demand sidemen working with a wide array of jazz and Latin stars – from Ravi Coltrane to Ray Barretto, and by his six critically- acclaimed recordings as a leader.

Singer, composer, and activist Toshi Reagon brings her powerful voice, fearless spirit, and genre-bending sound—spanning folk, rock, blues, gospel, and soul—together with a circle of friends. A beloved force on stage and in community, Reagon and friends deliver music that is as uplifting as it is urgent.

Toshi Reagon is a multi-talented and versatile singer, composer, musician, curator, and producer with a profound ear for sonic Americana. Her expansive career includes residences at Carnegie Hall, the Paris Opera House, and multiple festivals and venues nationally and internationally. A highly collaborative artist, she has worked with many musicians, choreographers, film and theater makers, including Meshell Ndegeocello, Urban Bush Women, Dorrance Dance, Nona Hendryx, Carl Hancock Rux, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Robert Wilson, and her band BIGLovely. Toshi co-composed music for two Peabody Award-winning films. She is a 2015 Art of Change Fellow by the Ford Foundation. A 2018 United States Artist Fellow, and an Andrew W. Melon Creative Futures Fellow Carolina Performing Arts. In 2021, Toshi received the APAP Award for Merit in the Performing Arts and was a 2021 recipient of the Herb Alpert Award in Music. Toshi received an honorary doctorate from Emerson College in 2022. In 2011 she founded the Community festival Word\*Rock\* & Sword.

Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon, co-created the opera Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower, premiering in 2017 at NYUAD Arts Center. Ongoing projects include Toshi Reagon and BIGLovely on tour, LongWaterSong Marine Mammal Meditations w/ Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Octavia’s Parables Podcast, Songs of the Living, and multiple collaborations and curated events. Toshi created the production company Wise Reagon Arts in 2018 to produce the opera Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower. Jenny Scheinman’s *All Species Parade* will be exploring a set of all new material on the eve of their sophomore recording date. Expect playful, ensemble-first jazz, and slow burn grooves that tip ecstatic. The band has spent much of the last year on the road celebrating their debut release, and is honed and ready for more. They are calling this show *Field Notes* – picture a botanist back from the wilderness with a truck full of treasures to unwrap. Debuts. Discoveries.

Featuring **Bill Frisell** (guitar), **Carmen Staaf** (piano), **Tony Scherr** (bass), **Kenny Wollesen** (drums) plus composer/bandleader **Jenny Scheinman** (violin).

Jenny Scheinman is a violinist, fiddler, singer, and writer of songs with and without words. She grew up on a homestead in Northern California and has been performing since she was a teenager. She has worked extensively with some of the most innovative jazz artists in the world such as Bill Frisell, Julian Lage, Jason Moran, Brian Blade, Allison Miller, Nels Cline and Marc Ribot. She has also toured and recorded with numerous American songwriting legends such as Lucinda Williams, Bruce Cockburn, Rodney Crowell, Lou Reed, Joni Mitchell, Robbie Fulks and Ani Difranco.

She is featured on the original cast recording of Anais Mitchell’s hit musical *Hadestown*. In March of 2015 she premiered a multi- media performance at Duke University entitled *Kannapolis:A Moving Portrait* which she continues to present in theaters around the country. She has released eleven albums of original music.
