bar italia return with a slew of European and North American tour dates. The run of shows in October and November, including stops in London, Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Los Angeles, New York and Toronto, will follow a sold-out, small capacity London show previewing new music at 93 Feet East on June 19th. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 20th at 10am local time.

The last two years have seen the London trio release two critically acclaimed albums on Matador only several months apart – the poised Tracey Denim and the grand The Twits. They’ve traversed the globe with headline performances from Istanbul to Tokyo, sold-out multi-night stints in New York and Los Angeles, and festivals including Corona Capital, Glastonbury and Coachella. With over 160 shows worldwide across 2023-2024, bar italia became an exhibitionist and muscular five-piece – equally comfortable at festival mosh-pit incitement and moments of pin-drop intimacy.

Trying Not to Have a Thought, out September 12 via Saddle Creek, isn’t just Algernon Cadwallader’s first album since 2011’s Parrot Flies, it’s their first with the original lineup since 2008’s Some Kind of Cadwallader. Shortly after that debut, drummer Nick Tazza and guitarist Colin Mahony departed; Algernon broke up in 2012 and stayed dormant until their feverishly anticipated 2022 reunion.

“There’s a certain magic to this original form,” says vocalist-bassist Peter Helmis. No one expected new music, but as they rehearsed, ideas emerged, and the seeds of Trying Not to Have a Thought took root. “I’m kind of hearing in my head what this person’s already doing,” recalls guitarist Joe Reinhart of their rekindled chemistry.

Written across two retreats, Washington’s Snoqualmie and Pennsylvania’s Poconos, the album was tracked at Pachyderm Studios and Reinhart’s Headroom in Philadelphia. Rather than sounding forced, it’s warm, lively, and effortlessly hooky. Fans will recognize Algernon’s DNA, yet the record feels uncoupled from trends: “Joan of Arc and Pavement in a blender is where we end up,” Reinhart jokes.

Lyrically, Helmis moves from abstract prose to explicit themes: grief (“Hawk”), protest (“Revelation 420”), capitalism’s failures (“Million Dollars”), and the MOVE 9 tragedy (“Attn MOVE”). The title reflects resisting mental overload amid chaos—and the band’s instinctive bond. “This is just what comes out of us when these four people get in a room,” Helmis says.

From her frequent and acclaimed collaborations to her film scoring, from her own compositions to her solo pop work, rousay’s music is delicate yet powerful, carefully constructed with a casual intimacy. rousay collages a wealth of found sounds and field recordings with earthy strings, stately piano, and processed instrumentation, all of which trace the outlines of memories and distinct impressions and create a complex constellation of feeling. a little death illustrates rousay’s ability to sculpt sonic microcosms from disparate raw materials, worlds where sound and feeling are one in the same. Shaped around field recordings she captured at dusk, the album is an homage to the gentle drifts and lurking disquiet of twilight.

Radio DDR was recorded spring, 2024 by Kai Slater and Sharp Pins band mates in his house on the roof in the basement with all the doors open. It was initially released as a cassette-only delight and immediately caught fire. Everyone wants to beat this tambourine. Radio DDR has taken on a life of its own.

Some say Sharp Pins are Geniuz; others proclaim a Minor New Talent on high. It don’t matter none. Agriculture is a Los Angeles–based band channeling ecstatic black metal into something spiritual, grounded, and definitely present. In 2024 A&P celebrated two decades of honing in on his craft - meticulously inventing, machining, experimenting, and creating custom musical instruments for his incredible recordings and live performances, touring the world with artists like TOOL, HEALTH, Pertubator, Neurosis & many others. 2025 will see the release of his eighth full-length album via Relapse Records along with an even greater emphasis and rebirth of the visceral, live ritual.

Glitterer, the Washington, D.C., post-hardcore band, has a new record, its fourth full-length album. It’s called erer and it’s on Purple Circle Records, a little label that singer/bassist Ned Russin co-owns. Performed by a revamped lineup — drummer Robin Zeijlon and guitarist Colin Gorman came on board last year, joining singer/bassist Ned Russin and keyboardist Nicole Dao — and recorded by the prolific producer/engineer Arthur Rizk, who has worked on every Glittererer release since 2019, erer is the most thematically urgent work the band has produced to date. It’s also the most immediately and sustainedly ear-pleasing.

Malibu is a French composer and vocalist whose art is bound to meditation. A musician by trade but an allegorist in practice, her compositions exist as fragments of an imagination as wide as the sea and as open as the sky above it. Loose threads of drone, neoclassical, dance, and pop are woven within contexts of introspection and evanescence. Between these threads is a sonic lexicon entirely her own. Muted pianos and soaring woodwinds sit atop deep, dense waves of strings and pads. Her vocals, a cast of whispers, shift from intimate spoken word passages, long vocalized breaths, and gasps that feel like instruments in their own right. What culminates is a sanctuary for romantic musings on cities, seas, and the self to take place comfortably—ephemerally so, but everlasting all the same.

Malibu's artistry encompasses an unparalleled live performance, featuring a seamless blend of tracks meant to induce a state of euphoria and entrancement, enhanced by attentive lighting cues and sound dynamics. This live acumen has earned her spots at festivals such as Atonal and C2C, and as the opening act for frequent collaborator Oklou’s Choke Enough tour. The philosophy of her live performances extends to her acclaimed NTS radio show United in Flames, where she and a cast of guests (including Evian Christ, Casey MQ, Stella Explorer) bring meaningful thought and reason to an otherwise purely curatorial offering. A cinematic artist by nature, she is also a well-versed composer for film, notably scoring 2024’s La Fille Qui Explose (The Exploding Girl), which was featured at the Cannes Film Festival.

Acopia is a band from Naarm/Melbourne, formed in 2018 by Kate Durman, Lachlan McGeehan, and Morgan Wright. Working with restraint and atmosphere, their music unfolds slowly and deliberately, guided by instinct and emotion. Their debut album Chances was released in 2022 on Melbourne imprint Companion, followed by a self-titled, self-released LP in 2023. Since then, they’ve sold out headline shows across the UK, Europe, and Australia, performed at festivals including Wide Awake (UK), Les Nuits Botanique (BE), and Golden Plains (AUS), and shared the stage with artists such as Bar Italia, Tirzah, and Raisa K. Their third album, Blush Response, is due out in September 2025 via London label Scenic Route.

Black Eyes are Dan, Daniel, Hugh, Jacob, and Mike. They began playing as Black Eyes in August of 2001, although most of the band had played together previously in Trooper and the No-Gos before that. The band's first-full length was released on Dischord in 2003 following several singles on Ruffian Records and Planaria.

Black Eyes created a unique live experience as the members made a symmetrical shape on stage, two drummers, one on either side of the stage, two bass players, one at the back and one at the front, and one guitarist in the middle. Their shows were chaotic and often melted down into frenzied, rhythmic jam sessions, with most of the audience partaking in the mayhem by the end of the set.

After an extensive tour with Q and Not U, the band released their second full-length, "Cough", in May of 2004. This album introduced saxophone to the mix and relied more heavily on improvisational and dub influences that were hinted at in their earlier work. The band broke up shortly before the album was released, at the height of their popularity.

Hailing from the coastal town of Frankston, the close-knit indie-rock four-piece have been building a loyal local following since they first formed eight years ago; fans across the band’s hometown of Melbourne and beyond have been magnetized to the group’s earnestness and ultra-sticky power-pop song structures.

Australian-based punk act dust blend jagged instrumentation and melancholic soundscapes into a visceral, genre-defiant identity. Drummer Kye Cherry, bassist Liam Smith, saxophonist Adam Ridgway and dual vocalists/guitarists Justin Teale and Gabriel Stove formed dust in 2020 to begin honing in on a sound that is both cathartic and confrontational.
