Vapors of Morphine are a power trio featuring electric baritone sax, drums, and 2 string slide bass (often guitar). Baritone saxophonist Dana Colley is the through-line between Vapors and “low rock” pioneers Morphine, who’s leader Mark Sandman left this earth while performing onstage in Italy in 1999.

VoM perform much of the Morphine repertoire, plus new material and original versions of selective covers. They expand on the ethereal, hypnotic sounds popularized by the group in the nineties, and dig into their influences, from African music to delta Blues.

Vapors was formed over a decade ago by Colley, singer and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Lyons and Morphine’s original drummer Jerome Deupree. Drummer Tom Arey (J. Geils Band, Peter Wolfe’s Midnight Ramblers, Ghosts of Jupiter) replaced Deupree in 2019.

Their new album represents both a new era and a return to form for Vapors of Morphine. Fear & Fantasy, in its often lush arrangement, recalls Morphine’s final album, The Night, where Deupree teamed up with Billy Conway, the drummer who had replaced him; this time Arey plays on one side, Deupree on the other. It only seems fitting when both bands have been blessed with a revolving cast of top-notch percussionists.

Get the Blessing:

It was twenty years ago today (or thereabouts) that the key ingredients of what was to become the award-winning, internationally touring, musical potage Get The Blessing were first gathered together in a Bristolian deep-sided saucepan to begin the slow process of sweating…

Since then, the recipe has been periodically tweaked and adapted, with unexpected spicings and unlikely additions, but the basic sofrito has remained constant: the rhythm section of Jim Barr (bass) and Clive Deamer (drums), best-known for their work with the band Portishead, and the horns of Jake McMurchie (saxophones) and Pete Judge (trumpet), two of the most distinctive players to emerge from the Southwest’s vibrant jazz scene.

Another constant flavour has been the influence of Ornette Coleman’s great early quartet. The Blessing, as it was until an enforced name-change, took its name from one of Ornette’s tunes, and began as an acoustic homage to those ground-breaking free-spirited albums of the late 1950s and early 1960s, before plugging in and ploughing on in its own uncategorisable furrow.

From then on, GTB has rarely stopped touring, amassing a truly international fan-base, with tours and festival appearances in the UK, USA, Canada, Dubai, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Due to demand and many people on the waiting list for Gwenifer Raymond's sold out show at The Ivy House on November 25th we added a second earlier show on the same day at the same venue.

Doors will open at 6pm and Gwenifer will perform from 6.20 to 7.20, no support for this one. Chris Rainier will be opening for the later sold out show.

Gwenifer began playing guitar at the age of eight shortly after having been first exposed to punk and grunge. After years of playing around the Welsh valleys in various punk outfits she began listening more to pre-war blues musicians as well as Appalachian folk players, eventually leading into the guitar players of the American Primitive genre. It was then that Gwenifer began writing her own moody and often-times manic original American Primitive styled compositions and started playing shows around the UK.

In 2017 she signed to the multi-Grammy award nominated label Tompkins Square. She released her first single ‘Sometimes There’s Blood’ in October of that year and released her debut album 'You Never Were Much of a Dancer' in June of 2018 to worldwide acclaim.

What followed was much international touring. Gwenifer headlined shows across much of Europe, debuted at several summer festivals including Green Man, Black Deer and Supernormal to name but a fraction. She also played a number of support slots for well known artists such as Michael Chapman, Michael Hurley, Xylouris White and Charlie Parr.

In early 2020 Gwenifer was all set to get into the studio to record her follow up album when the minor inconvenience of a worldwide pandemic complicated matters slightly, and so she was forced to record and produce the album herself in a make-shift bedroom studio at her home in Brighton, UK. ‘Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain’ was released in November of that year and received tremendous praise, especially as something of a transformation from her previous album, moving from a more traditional folk style into somewhat more avant-garde and complex compositions.

Société Étrange:

This French trio, composed of Antoine Bellini (electronics), Romain Hervault (bass) and Jonathan Grandcollot (percussion), explores a minimalist instrumental soundscape, where repetition and tension play a central role. The result is a music that is both hypnotic and introspective, where the presence and absence of sonic elements balance with minimal precision. Between electronic layers, melodic percussions and winding bass lines, the tracks move forward like on a foggy road, uncertain but captivating.

Mégabasse:

Pierre Bujeau is an expert at creating temporary escape zones - musical structures to evade the everyday. Sometimes he works collectively as part of the mysterious French groups Omertà and Tanz Mein Herz. But it’s when he’s on his own, performing as Megabasse, that he offers the most complete break from reality.

His kit is simple: twin Fender amps, and his double-necked guitar. An instrument like this normally signals maximum rockist excess - think Jimmy Page or Geddy Lee. In Pierre’s hands, it becomes more like a zither or a dulcimer, producing soft chiming patterns that build against themselves until the sound of the room, passed back and forth between his two amps, starts to blur everything, and we are away in another world. Wait, though - let down your yoga bun and don’t light the palo santo yet. The new space he creates has nothing to do with smug well-ness. It’s a rough, do-it-yourself psychedelia, scuffed but hopeful. Not a perfect blank space to be your best self in, but instead a communal dreaming, an uncanny place where all are welcome.

Minami Deutsch is a krautrock band from Tokyo, Japan. Known as self-proclaimed “repetition freaks,” the band draws inspiration from psychedelic rock and minimal techno, but their true obsession lies in krautrock—a fact hinted at by their name, which translates to “South Germany.”

Founded by Kyotaro Miula in 2014, the band began by performing live on the bustling streets of Tokyo. Since then, they have released three albums through their local friend's label Guruguru Brain. Their hypnotic, motorik-driven sound has taken them across Europe and the United States, where they’ve shared stages with artists like Damo Suzuki, the former vocalist of the legendary krautrock band CAN.

Their third studio album, \*Fortune Goodies\* (2022), is a deep dive into the rich legacy of krautrock. Drawing from Miula's expanded musical vocabulary after relocating from Tokyo to Berlin, the album offers a uniquely Japanese perspective on encyclopedia of Krautrock. In 2024, Minami Deutsch completed two North American tours, including supporting Earthless and performing at the Levitation Festival, further cementing their place as a leading voice in modern kraut/psychedelic music.

UK-based Australian vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Penelope Trappes formally trained in opera and jazz in her youth, Penelope swaddles her voice and poetics in brooding atmospherics underpinned by subterranean drone. On April 4 2025, She released her fifth full-length album ‘A Requiem’ on London imprint, One Little Independent Records. ‘A Requiem’ collects ten haunting, ambient soundscapes - incantations of dreams and nightmares, of death and grief, as well as power and autonomy. Carnal, transcendent cello drones are used to exorcise historical and generational traumas in an evocative and macabre piece of gothic experimentalism.

She released her acclaimed trilogy, ‘Penelope One’, ‘Two’ and ‘Three’, on Fabric’s Houndstooth label. In between instalments of her ambitious trilogy, Penelope released a clutch of both experimental and more dreampop-oriented EPs. She demonstrated her versatility in the extended 25-minute deep-listening composition ‘Gnostic State’, and the arpeggiated electronics and minimalist songwriting on the ‘Eel Drip’ EP, which was accompanied by image and film inspired by Francesca Woodman’s 1970s series of nude self-portraits with eels. She also released an album of reworks, ‘Penelope Redeux’, with contributions by Cosey Fanni Tutti, Mogwai, Félicia Atkinson and Nik Colk Void, and the cassette, ‘Mother’s Blood,’ a vocal-free meditative reinterpretation of 'Penelope Three’ concluding with the live-scoring of a 1-hour film at Sonica Festival.

Penelope’s fourth album, ‘Heavenly Spheres’, was released in 2023 on her own Nite Hive imprint, was composed using just piano, voice and an old reel-to-reel tape deck during a two-week artist residency for Britten Pears Arts at the house where the composer, teacher and musicologist Imogen Holst lived in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. Most recently, 2024’s ‘Hommelen’, the austere and beautifully severe result of her Halldorophone residency at EMS Stockholm was released on Paralaxe Editions.

In the live realm, Penelope’s music expands into tidal waves and surges of tension with hypnotising gothic live visuals by Agnes Haus. Select shows are accompanied by a live band, and other times performing solo, she has shared the stage with the likes of William Basinski, Mary Lattimore, and HTRK, and she has extensively toured the UK, Australia, and Europe over the last five years, including a pivotal live performance with the London Contemporary Orchestra at Southbank Centre.

Francesca Ter-Berg is a cellist and composer known for her unique style which blends Klezmer, Improvisation, and electronic synthesis. Her debut EP (released on the Phantom Limb Label) achieved Best Experimental Music on Bandcamp + Quietus Best Releases of 2021. Francesca writes for film and TV, commissions include the Turner Contemporary and Margate NOW Festival. Her critically acclaimed duo Fran & Flora (“Border-defying” – Mojo, “vibrant, mournfully expressive, and creatively imaginative” – Line Of Best Fit) released their 2nd self-produced studio album Precious Collection in April 2024 on Hidden Notes Records (The Guardian Top 10 Folk Albums of 2024).She tours and records with Imogen Heap, Tom Skinner, Portico Quartet, Ziah Ziah and prominent klezmorim including Grammy award winner Frank London, Zoe Aqua and Craig Judelman. She has spent many years developing her Klezmer style, adapting the cello to explore all aspects of the music from accompaniment, tenor lines and bass to melody and simultaneously singing. Francesca performs and teaches at Klezmer festivals globally including KlezMore Vienna, KlezFest London, Yiddish New York and is a Professor of Electronic & Produced music at Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Anna Clock is a musician and sound artist whose solo music projects blend cello, field recordings and electronics, blurring the lines between sound, noise and music and inviting the audience to listen to their environment in new ways. Their latest EP UMBRA was released on Fort Evil Fruit to critical acclaim.

The label describes: ‘Between sinewy cello and rumbling vocals, we are invited to eavesdrop on intimate domestic scenes and the steps of a solitary dancer. The hum of waves dragging over rocks and leaves wilting in the rain draws us into an assured quietude, contrasting with moments of fury and ecstasy.’

Alongside their solo work they score film, theatre, radio and installations. They have collaborated, performed and recorded with musicians including Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh (IRL), Lori Goldston (USA), Thruoutin (CN), Woven Skull (IRL), Hozier (IRL), David Lacey (IRL), David Turpin (IRL), Roger Kim (USA). Recent commissions include sound and musical works for The Science Museum, Wellcome Collection, Royal Court Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith (UK), Times Square, Irish Arts Centre (NYC), Dresden Staatsschauspiel (GER), Project Arts Centre (IRL) and Cirko (FIN). Their audio works have been played on BBC Radio 4, Radio 3, Resonance FM, Radio na Life and RTE Lyric radio. They are currently pursuing a funded Collaborative Doctoral Award with the Science Museum in the UK exploring how we listen to outer space.

As the name suggests, the tracks that make up Snapped Ankles’ Hard Times Furious Dancing album were designed for live performance. Or more specifically to make people move as if their lives depend on it. Honed at the band’s Forest Rayve club nights throughout 2024 and released in 2025 - it marked a new era for the woodwose.

Battle cries echo through the forest - “People of principle rise up!” As you approach the clearing, you can feel the bass through your feet and in your chest. Green lasers cut through the mist as gabba breaks collide with rabid howls. It’s a heaving sweaty mess. There’s no time to think before you’re onto the next one. Hands in the air, woodwose in the crowd, head torches set to stun.

Victoria Shen is an experimental music performer and sound artist from San Francisco. Though analog synthesizers are the backbone of Shen’s music, while performing live, she plays self-made electronics, invented instruments, and even acoustic objects like a bull whip. Shen is a markedly mobile performer that muddles the boundaries between performer and audience, stage and floor. Her sets tend to be site-specific, in direct response to the physical and acoustic qualities of the space in which she performs. Her live show vacillates between moments of restraint and swells of frenetic and confrontational movement. A tightrope walk between control and chance, the whiff of danger is never far during Shen’s performances. Her sound is dynamic with a sensitivity to texture and structure throughout.

The unholy triumvirate of Big Sexy Noise featuring Lydia Lunch, James Johnston (Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Faust) & Ian White (Barry Adamson) of the notorious Gallon Drunk are dead set on proving once more that ROCK is alive and kicking, down and dirty and raunchier than ever!

Lunch helped pioneer no wave in 1977 with the slashing din of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and has remained a caustic presence in the alt-rock firmament ever since. Big Sexy Noise unites her with guitarist James Johnston and drummer Ian White of guttural London greasers Gallon Drunk for the most joyfully bawdy music of her career, stripping bare the bluesy brawn of 70’s heavy-rock and inverting its every cock-rock cliche to Lunch’s delight.

Piano with electronics and projections - grand piano and trigger electronics from my laptop to mix with my playing.

Over the past decade, New York-based composer and producer Kelly Moran has challenged the piano's traditional, classically-imposed school of thought with a more contemporary, experimental approach. An accomplished and highly sought-after composer, Moran has collaborated and performed with FKA twigs and Oneohtrix Point Never as part of their live ensembles. Moran has also composed for classical musician Margaret Leng Tan and recorded collaborations with other visionary contemporaries like Kelsey Lu, Yves Tumor, The Avalanches, Helado Negro, Bibio, and more.

As a solo artist, Moran's critically acclaimed albums, Bloodroot and Ultraviolet, have explored a variety of extended piano techniques like John Cage-inspired prepared piano and exercises in improvisation. Her unique strand of experimental piano compositions, which conjure hypnotizing textures and dramatic compositional arcs, have been included on year-end lists across classical, avant-garde, and metal genres. Moran’s most recent album, Moves in the Field, was praised by the New York Times for being “a softhearted but steel-skinned set of 10 piano pieces that are as rapturous as a waterfall or as delicate as vapor. Her first album in six years, it is the redemptive conclusion in an extended span of personal tragedy and professional doubt, all ingrained in its sweeping songs.”

Jozef Van Wissem - The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - Live Soundtrack

According to The New York Times “Van Wissem is both an avant-garde composer and a baroque lutenist, and thus no stranger to dichotomy”. He has gained recognition for his innovative approach, the “liberation of the lute”, as he describes it. Jozef Van Wissem is an avant-garde composer and lutenist who plays his unique all-black baroque lute all over the world. His timeless music is often described as hypnotic, minimal, and hauntingly atmospheric, merging beauty with a dark, meditative edge. His lyrics have a mythical Christian appeal, incorporating themes of love, faith, and the afterlife, often with a repetitive, mantra-like quality. He studied lute in New York with Patrick O’Brien in the 1990s and has since built a career that bridges classical traditions with modern sounds like drones, electronics, field recordings and voice.

He collaborates with filmmaker and musician Jim Jarmusch, including the award-winning soundtrack for Only Lovers Left Alive, for which Van Wissem won the Cannes Soundtrack Award in 2013. A world tour with Jarmusch and their 5th record “ The Day The Angels Cried” is coming up in 2025.

His solo work spans albums like Stations of The Cross (2008) which Wire Magazine labeled a small masterpiece, New Lute Music For Film (2013) and Behold! I Make All Things New (2022), as well as scores for films like Un Prince (2023).

Van Wissem tours extensively, performing in diverse venues from rock festivals to churches, and has worked with artists like Tilda Swinton and Zola Jesus. In 2019 he was commissioned by Cinematheque Francaise to score the silent horror film Nosferatu (1922). He released the soundtrack in 2022 on his own Incunabulum label. The New York Times wrote: Beginning with a solo played on the lute, his performance will incorporate electric guitar and distorted recordings of extinct birds, graduating from subtlety to gothic horror. “My soundtrack goes from silence to noise over the course of 90 minutes,” he said, culminating in “dense, slow death metal.” In 2024 Van Wissem did a sold out nationwide American tour with the film. He has scored numerous feature films and documentaries.

In 2022 four of his compositions including the vocal piece “Love Destroys All Evil” were featured in HBO’s Irma Vep Series (starring Alicia Vikander). In 2023 Van Wissem scored the Cannes Award winning film Un Prince. The New York Times wrote ” A subtly medieval score — distinguished by the thrum of a lute and composed by Jozef van Wissem — draws out a surreal dimension. Eventually, the film shifts into explicitly sexual and mythological terrain with a B.D.S.M. edge, and the score keeps pace, taking on a folk metal vibe.” His latest projects include the 2024 album The Night Dwells in the Day. The Chicago Reader said “ On The Night Dwells in the Day, he bolsters the lute’s delicate progress through the palindromic melodic structures of his compositions using sequenced beats, subliminal electronic drones, and stern intonations”. In 2024 Van Wissem was commissioned to score the silent film The Fall Of The House Of Usher (1928). In 2026 he will premiere his new live score for The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari (1920).

A new solo record and worldwide tour is slated for early 2026. He will be performing all new material consisting amongst others of cinematic hypnotist slide lute pieces evoking contemporary deserted landscapes.

From their 2001 founding to the duo’s final shows (and subsequent hiatus) in 2008, Gabriel Mindel Saloman and Pete Swanson aka Yellow Swans carved an influential path through America’s experimental music underground, at the axis of noise, psychedelia, industrial, drone, and hardcore. During that time they released well over 50 recordings documenting studio experiments, live improvisations, and numerous collaborations. Together they relentlessly toured North America, Europe, and Oceania, performing at numerous international music festivals including Sonar (ES), Open Circuit (BE), and Sonic Protest (FR), and were invited to join Art Council England’s Free Noise Tour in 2007. After a 15 year break, they have returned to recording and performing. Their music continues to be restless, ragged, and forever in flux, untethered and unresolved.

A special performance at the Barbican of late Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson’s Cinematic Suites. Performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra, the concert will bring to life Jóhannsson’s evocative musical landscapes for three acclaimed films by visionary director Denis Villeneuve: Prisoners (2013), Arrival (2016), and Sicario (2018), celebrating the remarkable collaboration between them.
