**War Child x Day of The Girl**

Alternative rock artist RØRY is headlining a very special show to raise money for girls and women living through conflict. Gender inequality escalates to alarming levels in areas affected by crisis. Girls and women didn’t start these wars, yet they are paying the price. Since 2021, Day of the Girl has raised over £150K for War Child, with some of the UK’s most exciting female identifying artists lending their voices to amplify War Child’s message. This year there will be four very special shows: Bree Runway, RØRY, Matilda Mann and Connie Constance. These shows will be more than just performances; but a lifeline for girls and women surviving war. Taking place around the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th, the shows are a powerful statement. Rhoda Dakar started her career in 1979 as the lead vocalist with 2-Tone Records group The Bodysnatchers. The band hit the charts with a cover of the Dandy Livingstone classic Let's Do Rock Steady. The Bodysnatchers toured with The Specials, Toots and the Maytals, and The Selecter before splitting in 1980. Rhoda joined The Specials for the More Specials and In The Studio albums and co-wrote the seminal Free Nelson Mandela single. In 2014, she released the Rhoda Dakar sings the Bodysnatchers album which consisted of songs performed live but never recorded by The Bodysnatchers.

Version Girl is the debut album from Rhoda Dakar on Sunday Best Recordings and features Rhoda covering songs by Morrissey, David Bowie, The Pretenders, Patsy Cline, Louis Armstrong, Tim Buckley, The Stranglers, Maxime Le Forestier, The Rolling Stones, Boudleaux Bryant, & Nick Lowe.

Hawklords are a British Space-Rock Band who were originally formed in 1978 from the ashes of The Sonic Assassins, by Robert Calvert and Dave Brock (of Hawkwind).

Hawklords return to the UK tour circuit to promote their 11th studio album, Relativity. Sounding, at times, as if the music has fallen through a worm-hole from the classic 1970s era of space-rock and psychedelia, the new release explores themes including Artificial Intelligence, ‘machine learning’ and how Humanity can, in part, come to terms with all that entails.

Guitarist, Jerry Richards: “Perception depends upon where you’re standing when you witness what it is that you see, hear, or feel. As Albert Einstein said, ‘“Everything is relative.”’

JERRY RICHARDS: Guitar & Vocals - veteran of the UK free festival scene of the 1980's. Lead guitarist, writer and producer with Hawkwind (1995 to 2000) and founder member of Hawklords.

DAVE PEARCE: Drums - Dave has been a member of Hawklords since 2010 and he is also a member of renowned British psych-rock band, The Bevis Frond.

MR DIBS: Bass & Vocals - Bassist, lead vocalist and a writer with Hawkwind (2007 to 2018). Mr Dibs joined Hawklords in 2021. An AGMP Concerts presentation.

CHRIS COHEN was always a quiet kid. In fact, this introversion was one reason he began playing music as a toddler—to communicate without speaking to identify with others without the direct representation of words. It has worked, too, with Cohen’s terrific stint in the mighty Deerhoof and his own captivating art-rock act The Curtains, preceding production and session work for the likes of Weyes Blood, Kurt Vile, Le Ren, and Marina Allen. Somewhere along that long way, Cohen started writing lyrics. He found that, though it didn’t come naturally, the process offered a new sense of self-discovery and reckoning, a way to see himself and the world from unexpected angles. His three twilit albums of casually complicated pop during the last decade radiated these epiphanies: handling family strife, navigating advancing age, and understanding social woes.

But Cohen has never had as much to sing so directly as he does on ‘Paint a Room’, his first album in five years and his debut for Hardly Art. If Cohen’s meanings have previously lurked inside the tessellated musical layers he built alone, they are newly clear and resonant here, animated and underscored for the first time by a band playing in real time. There is the endless miasma of state violence on the subversively melodious opener “Damage,” the existential exhaustion of modernity on the horn-traced jangle “Laughing”. With ‘Paint a Room’, Cohen’s music feels like a warm spring breeze, easy to love and gentle to feel. But it’s often carrying something heavy, as if blowing in from some unseen storm cloud.
