NCH and Ireland’s leading classical ensembles come together to create a new livestream series bringing audiences the best in classical music.

First premiéred in Dublin in 1742, Handel's 'Messiah' was a success from the day of its first performance on Fishamble Street, so much so that a second performance had to be scheduled for a few weeks later. The piece endures huge popularity to this day and tells the universal story of triumph over trial, where life's sorrows and despairs are met by overriding hope and unbridled joy. This performance, given by Ireland's flagship baroque orchestra and chamber choir directed by Irish conductor Peter Whelan, uses period instruments to capture the sound world of the original Dublin performance, and transport the audience back to that first performance now nearly 300 years ago.
