AGRICANTUS FROM SICILY - STREAM
Use it to
Agricantus is inviting you to their concert from Vittoria (RG), Sicily. A rich Mediterranean journey through three decades of music and through the intersection of cultures which characterize Sicily - polyglot in languages, and polyglot in sounds both archaic and contemporary.
Agricantus ('song of the wheat field') began in Palermo, Sicily, at the end of the seventies. They draw on the sounds of the desert and the world's periphery, as well as the rhythms of rock and traditional music of the Mediterranean - Italy's South, the Middle East and North Africa, meshing ethnic instruments and electronics. Sicilian is a melange of the languages of all the peoples who passed through Sicily over millennia; a kind of dialectical polyglotism. Sicilian music has the same characteristic.
Agricantus are: Anita Vitale (vocals), Mario Crispi (ethnic wind instruments & vocals), Mario Rivera (six-string acoustic bass & vocals), with Carmelo Graceffa (drums & percussion) and Ciccio Leo (keyboards).
Numerous transformations notwithstanding, Agricantus has retained its own singular identity even while they observed the long silence that proceeded their excellent last album - 'Akoustikòs volume 1'.
Language enriched with references not only to the Mediterranean tradition but also to the South American, Asian and Middle Eastern ones… Result: an album of absolute originality, modernity, worthy of being listened to with great attention. (Angel Romero - World Music Central about Akoustikòs. Volume 1).
