Yehan Jehan (Live) + Special Guests
Yehan Jehan has announced his new EP ‘Earth Arrangements Vol.1’, which will be released November 22 on Aphrodite. Available now, lead track 'Haze' is a sublime piece of Tears For Fears-flavoured psychedelia with a contemporary theme. “The song is about algorithms, the digitalization of society and vanity,” explains Yehan. “The Haze is the general sociological mess heightened by the continuous digital presence and its absorption of all attention.”
The most obvious label for Yehan Jehan’s luxurious music would be to call it yacht rock, and there’s a polish to his songs which can trace a lineage back to Steely Dan and Hall & Oates, as well as easing next to contemporaries like Foxygen and Kindness. But there is a breadth to the Paris-based Londoner’s sound that takes it far beyond the confines of the genre. He can harness a groove like Giorgio Moroder, or create slick funk or sumptuous prog – his musical ability is startling, and, in the tradition of Beck and Prince, Yehan produces and plays everything himself.
Yehan was born in North London after his musician parents moved from Bosnia in 1991. His father is a composer, his mother a piano teacher who taught Yehan from a young age. Her love of classical music feeds its way into the elegant shape of Yehan’s songs. He was composing music by the age of 12, while at the same time writing scripts, making films and animations. These interests have continued into adulthood – an artistic polymath, Yehan designs his own artwork and directs his videos.
“I’m passionate about all the fields I’m involved with,” he explains. “If I work on music continuously and neglect my visual side, then once my music is made I can put my energy there.”
