SANTA SANGRE (30TH ANNIVERSARY SCREENING)
A young man named Fenix sits in a tree on the grounds of a mental hospital and remembers his childhood in a ramshackle Mexican family circus. Specifically, the gruesome murder-suicide that left his knife-thrower father dead and his trapeze artist mother without both her arms.
This is the beginning of Santa Sangre, the surrealist epic by the one and only writer, director, mystic, Alejandro Jodorowsky. This special 30th anniversary screening will precede a talk on Psychomagic from writer, filmmaker, publisher, and founder of Strange Attractor Press; Mark Pilkington. A conduit of esoteric and fringe cultures, Mark has written for The Guardian, Wire, Frieze, and The Quietus.
Presented by Redmond Pictures.
