Former Liverpool resident and LIPA (Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts) graduate Dan Croll released his debut album ‘Sweet Disarray’ (2014) through Decca Records to critical acclaim. Follow-up ‘Emerging Adulthood’ (2017) saw him sign to Communion Records (launch-pad for Michael Kiwanuka, Catfish and The Bottlemen and Bear’s Den) which saw him continue to receive plaudits and retain his ability to be impossible to pin down musically. He’s toured with a vast array of diverse artists from Bastille, Bombay Bicycle Club, Haim, London Grammar, Chvrches to Imagine Dragons. And he’s picked up countless syncs including Grand Theft Auto, FIFA, Citroen, Burberry, Paul Smith and Apple iPhone, which was launched across the world with his hit ‘From Nowhere’.
Following a two-year hiatus after the release of second album ‘Emerging Adulthood’, Dan Croll made a welcome return with his double a-side single ‘Yesterday’ and ‘Stay In L.A.’ through Communion Records in late January 2020. During that two year sabbatical, like many in the latter half of their twenties, he questioned the very fibre of his being; career; relationships; life choices; future; he upped sticks and moved to L.A. on a whim and hasn’t returned. The resulting transition to life in California, going back to basics with his songwriting and taking inspiration from the music that truly inspired him (James Taylor, Burt Bacharach, Joni Mitchell), many of which are part of Laurel Canyon’s musical heritage, bore musical fruits and a new chapter for this prolific songwriter. Over the course of 2020 Dan Croll will be releasing new material in couplets like this, which chronologically document the results of the seismic decision to move from Liverpool to L.A. From the impetus to go, the reason he stayed, to the people he met and the universal challenges he had to deal with along the way.
