Hillsboro is cathartic - fusing the swirling sounds of early 90’s shoegaze with an infectious rhythm section, haunting violin, and plaintive vocals from frontman Nima Walker, the group manages to strike a delicate balance between something nostalgic and something wholly its own. Hillsboro’s self-titled debut LP, released in September of 2023. Receiving critical acclaim from the likes of Exclaim!, Under the Radar, and Cups & Cakes Network, the album brandishes a dark pop which encourages listeners to indulge their everyday angst.

White Trash (releasing August 2024) offers Hillsboro’s most organic endeavor at recording yet. With Walker’s band mates being solidified over the past year of writing and touring, a quick, raw recording style was more in reach than it has ever been. On White Trash, Walker welcomes audiences once more to the dark navigations of his adolescence, this time uncovering more of his tendencies of self-destruction and self-resentment. While White Trash lacks the optimism that silver-lines HILLSBORO, it compensates with ceaseless energy and spotless production, self-recorded in Victoria, BC.

Above all, Hillsboro offers a way out, the sound of dodging trouble by the skin of your teeth and a direct response to present-day anxiety. Hillsboro creates a world in which fear and shame are excavated in an ecstatic fever, building a community which doesn’t hide its pain but is instead keen to share and destroy it.
