CHOP THE STIGMA KIKI BALL
HIV/AIDS stigma is getting a CHOP! MORPH & Southern Fried Queer Pride are happy to bring you the "Chop The Stigma" Kiki Ball, happening on Friday, August 23rd at The Mammal Gallery (at the MET Atlanta) Featuring Byrell The Great of Qween Beat! All in collaboration with Living Walls, the City Speaks' #StartTalkingStopHIV campaign!
A "Kiki", by definition, is a low-key function, including dancing and friendly competition – always fun, never too serious. The Kiki scene is focused heavily on community, and events are often run by up-and-comers. Members of the ballroom community use Kiki balls to practice for the mainstream balls but also form smaller houses and balls within, allowing younger performers to harness their craft in a smaller setting.
The categories are:
- Present a misconception about HIV/AIDS then hit the runway.
- Name an HIV/AIDS resource then hit the floor.
OTA Runway - $75
- Bring a prop that represents chopping the stigma of HIV/AIDS.
Tag Team Performance - $200
- Legends and Virgins. Each team must wear one solid color showing unity.
