JUPITER NIGHTS – Basilica Hudson’s new weekly series of arts events in our Gallery Building – continues with an evening of lush and dissonant soundscapes by Mexican-American producer Debit (NYC) and local musician Ben Seretan (Troy, NY).

In unexpected fusions of ambient techno and dissonance with reggaeton, baile funk and other latin-based club beats, Mexican-American producer Debit harnesses the cerebral and the physical, moving our bodies and minds to her cross-genre experiments. A visual artist and musician since childhood, Beatriz started making DIY hardware and circuit bending music in duo HDXD in 2012, after a move to Mexico City inspired by travels in South America and the U.S. There she befriended and began working with some of the producers behind groundbreaking label and collective N.A.A.F.I. before moving to NYC.

Ben Seretan is a musician and writer who is always up to something, and has been for a while now. His work morphs and shifts frequently – in 2018 he doled out My Life’s Work, a 24-hour-long piece of guitar drone autobiography but then followed it in early 2020 with Youth Pastoral, a mega-church-sized, full-band album about breaking up (with God) that was named one of the best of the year by Pitchfork (“bursting with exuberance”). Another left turn – 2021 brought Cicada Waves, a serene record consisting entirely of an antique piano and encountered sound from the Appalachian woods (“There’s a moment towards the end where Seretan spontaneously duets with a nearby songbird and it’s one of the most magical things you’ll hear this (or any) year.” -Aquarium Drunkard).
