HUB16 is a Dalston based studio and community hub where people learn the art of DJing and making music. Founder Samantha Nelson gives an introductory session in how to DJ, teaching you the basics of using CDJs and turntables. Participants must bring either a USB of tracks or a selection of records.
Involved in the club scene since the 90s, SAMANTHA'S record collection spans all realms of the dance spectrum; from Disco, Breaks and Baltimore to UK Funky and Drum Tracks, her speciality blends of rare beats, with club bangers from around the world.
Founding HUB16 studios in 2014 to support pro and upcoming electronic artists with studio time and tech support - fast becoming an industry favourite working #BTS with artists like Club Chai, KG, Jay Jay Revlon and Earz whilst recruiting grime royalty A.G, rising star Mina, and London's own Chux to train up the next wave of talent at hub DJ + production workshops.
Top Boy Academy is a two day programme from NTS and Netflix, giving young Londoners vital insight into the inner workings of the film, music and TV industries through a series of speakers, workshops and demos. Taking place over the 28th and 29th September at The Curtain in East London, Top Boy star Ashley Walters features in the programme alongside Top Boy's writers and producers as well as artists and creatives from the extended NTS family.
The event is aimed at 16-25 year olds living in Hackney, all the talks and workshops will be free but with limited capacity.
