Sackbuts and theorbos meet pipes and fiddles for a razzle-dazzle, slide-slipping, bow-slapping musical frolic. Shetland folk fiddler Morag Johnston is joined by early musicians Kate Bennett-Wadsworth, James Risdon, Emily White and Matt Wadsworth.

Our programme Rolling in the Barrel takes its name from one of our favourite traditional tunes from Ireland, and seemed an obvious choice for the Brewery Band… From here we cross the water for traditional sets from Scotland and Shetland arranged for our own unique forces. In amongst these, you will hear songs, fantasias, chaconnes, sonatas and divisions, hand-picked for their beauty, quirkiness or virtuosity. Clap when you want, cry when you need. The Brewery Band ‘performed with exquisite expression’ (Andrew Benson-Wilson, 2018). The Brewery Band are 2018's winners of The Stroud Green Festival Ensemble Competition.

Why not get involved? Find us on Facebook and learn a tune a week with Morag. Then bring your instrument and come prepared to join us afterwards for a drink and a play through some of our favourite tunes…
