‘HAIL THE NEW PROPHETS’ CREATIVE LEARNING WORKSHOP FOR FAMILIES (ZOOM)
Bold Tendencies and Harold Offeh are excited to host a free and exclusive Remote Creative Learning Workshop for Selfridges as part of our ongoing creative partnership.
‘Hail the New Prophets’ is a new workshop from visual artist Harold Offeh, created in response to our ongoing two-year project of the same name. The project features an open call and large-scale sculpture commission inspired by the legacy of Afrofuturism and legendary jazz musician, Sun Ra.
Suitable for all ages and families, Harold and our Education Team will take you on a journey through time and space with a workshop that centres itself amidst Harold’s fascination with the future, Sun Ra’s unique iconography, and the bright yellow spacecraft that Sun Ra uses to travel across the galaxy in his 1972 film, Space is the Place.
The mothership represents the power to escape everyday tragedies through the power of education and learning, wonder and speculative thinking. It poses questions such as: How would you like to see the future? How can we make a difference now?
Hail the New Prophets will introduce Bold Tendencies and Harold Offeh’s work and inspiration through music and clips from the Sun Ra film and fortune telling. The workshop will feature sketching, collage and thinking exercises to help imagine the future and to describe how we would like our futures to look.
As part of the workshop, participants will have the chance to contribute their own vision or prophecy for the future to Harold Offeh’s major project for Bold Tendencies in 2021. All prophecies will be included in the project open call and have the chance to be broadcast from Harold’s sculpture commission on the rooftop of Bold Tendencies next year - an intergalactic spacecraft inspired by Sun Ra’s mothership - giving participants a chance to make their mark on the future.
When the show’s about to start, the link to join will appear on your ticket, or you can access the stream link that we’ll email you on the day.
