PAVEL KOLESNIKOV: GALINA USTVOLSKAYA, SCHUBERT
The music of Galina Ustvolskaya is tough, brutal and uncompromising with a rigour, density and tensile strength that acquaints it well with architecture, and therefore with our concrete spaces at Bold Tendencies. Ustvolskaya was a student of Shostakovich though her music sounds nothing like his. She said herself: "There is no link whatsoever between my music and that of any other composer, living or dead." We are excited that Pavel Kolesnikov will introduce this great and extreme composer to our car park space in a special programme in which he pairs her Sonatas with the heavenly finesse and temporal experimentation of Schubert.
Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov is celebrated for his intelligence, imagination, and instrumental mastery, a “poet of the piano” (Bachtrack). He is the recipient of the Milstein Medal and is the RCM Benjamin Britten Piano Fellow. He received the Young Talent Award for 2019 from the UK Critics’ Circle. Pavel is co-founder of the Ragged Music Festival, held annually in East London. He has performed around the world and regularly at the Wigmore Hall in London. His major ongoing project is with the Rosas Dance Company, performing the Bach Goldberg Variations with the company’s founder Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
Presented by Bold Tendencies.
This is an all ages event.
