Bringing eclectic, challenging, progressive, and simply excellent performances to the stage at the beautiful St. John at Hackney, the St. John Sessions return this autumn with another awe inspiring line up.
Developing a groundbreaking style of piano playing named 'continuous music', Ukrainian composer Lubomyr Melnyk creates pieces that run, swell, blur, and swirl for over an hour at a time. However, despite becoming one of the fastest players on the planet, capable of over 19 notes per second on each hand, he was shunned by the classical community for near forty years.
Given confidence from the success of Terry Riley's In C and other notable pieces he persevered and today his talents are appreciated for their astonishing and near euphoric beauty. He releases new album Rivers and Streams through Erased Tapes this autumn.
With support from oud and bass players Kamilya Jubran and Sarah Murcia, plus English guitarist and pianist James Blackshaw on first, this is one truly eye-opening night of musicianship.
Presented by St John Sessions.
This is an 18+ event.
