West Adams Block Party is proud to present our first stage host Roadblock™

Despite LA’s small and underrecognized Afro/Caribbean community, the city’s hunger for the music, the cuisine and the overall culture is bursting at the seams. And while there are countless events that give LA a fleeting taste of what the city’s yearning for, none of the events have the kind of creative control to properly emulate what a raw Afro/Caribbean vibe in Southern California should be.

Enter foreigner.

foreigner is an LA-based designer and DJ born in Trinidad & Tobago and raised in Caracas/Venezuela & Brooklyn/NYC. Best known for his Junkyard Jouvert parties and his live DJ sets on NTS Radio and around the city, he focuses on drawing the most fun and unexpected connections between the Caribbean, West Africa and the Americas. This commitment to Panafrican philosophy has established foreigner as the creator of some of the best Afrodiasporic experiences in Los Angeles.

Foreigner’s latest concept is the purest manifestation of his creative and cultural philosophy: 600 people, half a dozen vintage BMWs, one Belizean DJ, one Jamaican DJ, one Nigerian DJ, one Trinidadian DJ, and one big DTLA warehouse—Roadblock™ is the underground Afro/Caribbean party that the city has been readying itself for.

Roadblock™ is a statement about what the optimal environment for Afro/Caribbean dance music looks, feels and sounds like in Los Angeles when there are real Afro/Caribbean people at the helm both front-and-center and behind the scenes.

By borrowing traffic sign imagery, encouraging guests to pull their best motorsport looks, and featuring vintage BMW’s as props to climb and dance one, Roadblock™ is a slight nod to the premise of defiant, lawless, masquerading revolution that Afro/Caribbean music and carnival festivity are rooted in.

Figuratively speaking, Roadblock™ is about blocking up the road and only allowing the spirits of dancehall, soca and afrobeat to pass, and on September 1st foreigner is partnering with the West Adams Block Party to develop a second stage aptly dubbed the West Adams Roadblock™: a free, public celebration of the black immigrant in LA and their underrepresented contribution to culture in the city.

Make sure to get there in good time the show is first come first serve. Parking is limited. Uber, Lyft, or public transportation is preferred.
