Since the summer of 2019, classically-trained outsider James Martin has been quietly releasing radical, boundary-pushing pop and ambient music. ‘Our Giant Panda is Not Pregnant’, his towering ambient opus, was released as an LP by London tastemakers Slow Dance in June. This was quickly followed by ‘Good Dog vs. Bad Dog’, a genre-hopping two-track collaboration with Black Country, New Road singer Isaac Wood (who recently cited James as a major influence when interviewed by The Quietus).

James’ other output has included an electronic opera composed and performed for the Royal Academy of Arts and more recently a demo of his track ‘Van Gock’. A stunning and utterly original chamber pop anthem, ‘Van Gock' features Jerskin Fendrix on the violin and clocks in at 10 minutes.

James Martin's music and enigmatic profile has long exerted a quiet but wide-reaching influence on London’s thriving, increasingly internationally reputed, underground music scene. 2020 promises to be the year in which this vital new voice is granted a real audience.
