Australian singer-songwriter and producer Nick Murphy may have dropped his Chet Faker stage name, but he hasn't dropped his A game. Now based in New York his first few releases as Nick Murphy have been warmly received.
His rise to fame in Australia began with his Thinking In Textures EP, which was quickly followed by the Lockjaw EP in collaboration with Flume featuring the undeniable Drop The Game. Murphy's incredible debut album Built On Glass topped the charts upon its release and single Talk Is Cheap topped Triple J's Hottest 100 tracks of 2014, with Gold and 1998 also securing top ten spots.
Touring the world and festival slots followed, including Glastonbury and Coachella. This fast-paced, non-stop lifestyle took its toll on Murphy, but after taking some time off to re-group he is back with new project Missing Link. His new music incorporates the same electronic, soul and R&B references heard on the Chet Faker material, but this time there's more attitude and bite as Murphy explores a darker side of pop.
If 8 minute long opus Stop Me (Stop You) is anything to go by, the forthcoming Nicky Murphy material could be his best yet.
