Brazilian rap revelation Drik Barbosa brings her vibrant show to London as part of her first European tour.
Born in São Paulo, Drik (pronounced Drika) has been composing since she was 14 years old. She has collaborated on tracks by artists such as Flow MC, Amiri, Marcello Gugu, Projota and DJ Caique. In 2013, alongside Emicida, she performed on the song “Aos Olhos de uma Criança”, on the soundtrack of the Oscar-nominated film “Boy and the World” - an animated feature film directed by Alê Abreu.
The sharp verses of a female voice drew attention in the song “Mandume”, released by Brazilian rapper Emicida in 2015. It was Drik Barbosa, a young rapper who developed her freestyle skills at Batalha do Santa Cruz, the birthplace of contemporary rap (other artists from there include Rashid, Projota and Emicida).
It was in 2018, however, that the singer and songwriter took the most solid step of her career. By launching the EP Mirror, which transitions between rap and R&B, Drik was able to outline her personality and show her power on stage. With the release of her debut self-titled album in 2019, Drik continues to be a force and now performs in London and the UK for the very first time at the Sebright Arms on Saturday 28 March 2020.
