Two of the most eminent Serbian artists Svetlana Spajic and Bokan Stankovic will have an online concert from the locality of Đavolja varoš on December 17 at 8:00 pm CET.

Svetlana Spajic is a Serbian – born singer internationally renowned for her researching, performing and teaching work in the field of Balkan and Serbian traditional singing. Her expertise is the study of microtonal a cappella singing and its unique vocal techniques and function. The research in the subject led her to travel the Balkans for 25 years now, studying firsthand with the best village singers of the oldest generation. Spajic have collaborated with world’s best traditional singers including Hronis Aidonidis, Domna Samiou, Yanka Rupkina, Cherifa Kersit, Stella Chiweshe. Other notable artists with whom she has performed are in the field of contemporary and avant-garde music and art such as Marina Abramovic, Robert Wilson, Zeitkratzer, Antony and the Johnsons, Sainkho Namtchylak, William Basinski, Urs Leimgruber and many others.

She has embodied her knowledge and experience into working process of many groups in the field of traditional singing art in the country and abroad, among them Svetlana Spajic Group, Belgrade based female ensemble which actively includes the village singers who often publicly perform with the group. Bokan Stankovic is the best Serbian traditional wind instrument players and the leading gajde (bagpipes) player of his generation. He is an insider of traditional culture of Eastern Serbia in general and goes to great lengths to keep tradition alive in its many forms: traditional instrumental music for gajde, duduk, okarina and the trumpet, as well as accompanying wind instruments and other types of Balkan bagpipes; traditional vocal music, singing na bas in particular; traditional dances from Eastern Serbia; traditional folk costumes and other artifacts. Bokan Stankovic has made numerous recordings of traditional instrumental music on gajde, duduk and okarina in the archives of Radio Belgrade. In 2013, the World Music Association of Serbia published his collaboration with Svetlana Spajić on a CD Svetlana Spajić and Bokan Stankovic ‒ live at Todo Mundo Festival, featuring vocal numbers na basfrom Eastern Serbia and Bokan's performance on the Svrljig gajde, okarina, duduk and Bulgarian bagpipes. The album Bokan Stanković ‒ traditional playing on the Svrljig gajde, duduk and okarina from Eastern Serbia published by World Music Association of Serbia is his first solo album.

The monument of nature, “Devil’s Town”, natural monument located in the South of Serbia is comprised of two natural and rare in the world phenomena: the soil figures, as specific forms of relief which appear rather attractive, and two springs of extremely acid water with high mineralization. The performance of Svetlana Spajic Group and Bokan Stankovic in Devil’s Town will be a unique and remarkable experience. If you want to hear ancestors’ avant-garde rooted in Balkan tradition in one of the most picturesque nature localities in Europe, this concert needs to be on your event list.
