Black Editions is pleased to present a celebration of **Andrea Centazzo** on his 75th Birthday with the premiere of his West Coast Art Ensemble featuring **Ellen Burr** (Flutes), **Lisa Yoshida** (Violin), **R. Scott Dibble** (Keyboards), **Wayne Peet** (Keyboards), **Jeff Schwartz** (Double Bass), **Charles Sharp** (Bass Clarinet, Saxes) and **Alicia Byer** (Clarinet) and Centazzo himself.

The premiere of the West Coast Art Ensemble, led by the renowned composer, percussionist, and multimedia artist, Andrea Centazzo will be presented at the 2220 Arts + Archives in Los Angeles on Thursday, September 28. The concert proposes an extraordinary opportunity to experience his never-before-released compositions, carefully crafted to provide a framework for improvisation. Andrea Centazzo is a visionary artist who has made remarkable contributions to the world of contemporary music and avant-garde jazz. Centazzo's innovative approach to music blends traditional and unconventional instruments, creating immersive soundscapes that push the boundaries of artistic expression.

The West Coast Art Ensemble is the direct consequence of Centazzo's earlier West Coast Chamber Jazz Trio which he formed back in 2016 with Burr and Schwartz, which gained considerable acclaim since its formation and the release of the “LA Strictly Confidential” Album. Expanding upon the intimate trio format, Centazzo has carefully curated a nonet, comprising musicians who bring a diverse range of influences and expertise to the ensemble. The expanded lineup allows for a richer sonic palette and more intricate musical interactions, elevating Centazzo's compositions to new heights.

The concert will feature original compositions, specially crafted for the West Coast Art Ensemble. These compositions will provide the ensemble members with the freedom to explore and express their individual musical voices. Centazzo's compositions are known for their intricate rhythms, mesmerizing melodies, and captivating harmonies, creating a captivating and immersive musical experience.

**Andrea Centazzo** (Composer, Percussionist and Multimedia Artist) has been for 50 years a leading figure in avant-garde. Beside being known for his seminal work with Steve Lacy, John Zorn, Alvin Curran, Derek Bailey, Don Cherry, Evan Parker, and many others, he’s also known for his compositions ranging from operas to symphonic works to almost 500 compositions for all kind of ensembles. He also directed several award winning video films. He's also a multimedia artist: his last multimedia concert Tides of Gravity has been produced by LIGO, NASA and Caltech and presented by the Nobel Prize for Physic Kip Thorne. In 2014, his Alma Mater, the University of Bologna (Italy) honored him by establishing the “Fondo e Archivio Centazzo” section of the University Library, where all his musical works are housed and made available to students and scholars.

**Ellen Burr** (Flutes) Burr’s multifaceted musical career has won her praise in performance, improvisation and composition. Since her solo debut at age 15, Ellen has been a featured performer and clinician for universities, festivals and symposiums across the U.S., Canada, Britain and Europe. **Lisa Yoshida** (Violin) is a violinist, composer, and educator who is currently a PhD student at the University of California, Irvine, in the Integrated Composition, Technology, and Improvisation program. As a lover of contemporary music, she has participated in the Darmstadt Summer Courses’ Violin Studio, Nief-Norf’s Composer-Performer-Improviser Summit, and Domaine Forget’s New Music Program.

**R. Scott Dibble** (Keyboards) The original music of R. Scott is a melting pot of styles forging a sound of its own. Scott has worked as a keyboardist, bandleader, songwriter, composer & producer on numerous projects to date. Always open to new inspirations, he continues to build a varied body of work.

**Wayne Peet** (Keyboards) is a keyboardist who has been a fixture on the Los Angeles creative music scene for over 40 years. When Wayne Peet gigs...you can expect both spontaneity and ferocious, tough playing defined by cutting rhythms and intricate harmonies. –Titus Levi, Keyboard Magazine

**Jeff Schwartz** (Double Bass) plays the bass, primarily in jazz and improvised music, but also in the standard orchestra repertoire, new music, rock, Arabic music, musical theater, and other genres. Since 2016 he has run the Soundwaves concert series in Santa Monica.

**Charles Sharp** (Bass Clarinet, Saxes) composes, plays woodwinds, and teaches ethnomusicology and music history at California State University, Fullerton. He also co-hosts the radio show Trilogy on KXLU.

**Alicia Byer** (Clarinet) is a composer-improviser originally from Claremont, CA. She holds a BA in music composition from Mills College and has studied with Fred Frith, Joelle Leandre, Cecil Taylor, Pauline Oliveros, Meredith Monk and others. Inspirations include nature, culture, and everything in-between.
