EASTER BANK HOLIDAY HIP HOP PARTY - POSTPONED
Grandmaster Flash "Hip Hop People, Places and Things" is the first audio, visual, historical presentation, of the early years of Hip Hop the 70s to present day, told by the legendary Grandmaster Flash. Flash has designed this new interactive, audio-visual show for large venues and festival like stages, where he takes the audience from the birth of Hip-Hop and plays the biggest hits right up to present day. He explores his own influences and different musical genres like Disco, Soul, Funk & even a bit of Rock across a 90 minute performance so its a great show for a wide range of people across all ages! There are lots of stories about the birth of jazz and the beginning of rock n' roll, but Hip-Hop has founding fathers: one of them is DJ Grandmaster Flash. In the early 70's Joseph Saddler was living in the South Bronx and studying electrical engineering. However, Saddler, a native of the Bronx, had a much deeper passion for music; he had been experimenting with his father's vinyl since he was an toddler. His knowledge of audio equipment led him to an idea that would revolutionize the way he Played music: the turntable would become his instrument. Although Flash has been in the business for many years, he shows no sign of slowing down.
Huey Morgan (BBC 6 // Fun Lovin' Criminal) Huey Morgan is the much loved, charismatic front man of acclaimed rock and Hip-Hop group Fun Lovin' Criminals, a group formed in 1993, releasing a total of seven albums. The New Yorker, though, is also a fine DJ who has a whole lifetime's worth of experience to draw upon when he is laying down one of his compelling selections. He does so all over the world, at big parties, more intimate get together and acclaimed clubs and festivals in equal measure. In every DJ set, he retains a great sense of pace and balance and always excels at segueing the right records the right time. In terms of sounds, Huey, who was born in New York in 1968, is obviously a skilled guitarist, but also has a passion for many other types of music. Being half-Puerto Rican and half-Irish, he has a varied musical background that finds him just as able to reach for loose funk, soul, reggae, cool jazz and hip-hop as indie rock, and indeed anything else. Notoriously amusing and full of charm, Huey always carries this over into the sets he plays in clubs, meaning you can be sure that your audience will have the time of their lives. What's more, this rock renaissance talent is also regularly on TV shows like Nevermind the Buzzcocks and is a fine TV presenter and writer with a wealth of knowledge about the music he plays.
DJ Maseo ( De La Soul) Producer / DJ / part-time MC Vincent Mason a.k.a Maseo a.k.a Plug 3 from iconic Hip-Hop group De La Soul quietly maintains a key spot in Hip-Hop history. De La Soul burst onto the scene and innovated hip-hop by colouring outside the lines, sampling a diverse array of untouched, previously unsampled artists such as The Turtles, Hall & Oates, and Steely Dan on their critically acclaimed debut "3 Feet High & Rising." They have been a catalyst for other important acts in hip-hop history as they helped introduce to world to Mos Def, helped propel a Tribe Called Quest with "Buddy", and were among the first major acts to work with deceased hip-hop icon J-Dilla on a major single (when he was known as Jay Dee). De La is perhaps the "oldest" functioning Hip-Hop group to still truly maintain credibility while not having "fell off" as they continue to stay relevant collaborating with Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, MF Doom, Ghostface Killah, Roc Marciano and Madlib among others. Their "downtime" music release within the gap of their their most recent albums (2003 and 2016) was also innovative; put out by Nike, who also released a De La Soul limited edition Dunk sneaker which sold out at retail immediately and can now be found on Ebay for upwards of $500. Their biggest song to date came from left field somewhat: Damon Albarn from Blur was such a fan that he enlisted De La to participate on his 2nd Gorillaz album which gave birth to "Feel Good Inc" - the biggest single ever for both De La and Gorillaz. The track was featured on a massive Ipod worldwide TV campaign and won both acts a Grammy the same night as their ensemble Grammy performance which also included Madonna. De La toured with Gorillaz worldwide where Damon would have entire stadiums chant Maseo.
