Formally the hang player (we're not sure what instrument that is either) in Portico Quartet, Nick Mulvey broke free to pursue his own solo goals.
Focusing wholly on the principles of the music, Mulvey's startling debut First Minds was swiftly shortlisted for 2014's Mercury-Prize. Far from your typical folk record, it honed in on intricate string works, featured elements of the harp, body percussion, and an alluring fluidity that made songs such as Fever To The Form and Cucurucu favourites and instantly likeable.
Taking time out to attend to his new found duties as a father, he released Unconditional his first taste of new material in two years. Grander in production it still has the same heart, as previous records but hints to a bolder path which can be heard on his latest single Myela. It's the perfect run up to his second LP Wake Up Now, which is due out September 2017.
