JESSE DAVIS (8PM SESSION)
Jesse Davis alto saxophone, Joan Monné piano, Ignasi González double bass, Joan Casares drummer.
Born in New Orleans, Jesse Davis is a continuator of the tradition started by the Marsalis family and other musicians from the Mississippi city. Not surprisingly, he formed with Ellis Marsalis. When he started, he was awarded the ‘Most distinguished musician’. Since then, he has served in the service of figures such as Jack McDuff, Phil Woods, Gary Bartz, Hank Jones, Illinois Jacquet, Chico Hamilton, Junior Mance, Tete Montoliu, and Roy Hargrove. He has also appeared in the Robert Altman film ‘Kansas City’ and has partnered with Nicholas Payton. In our country, he is remembered for his collaborations with Raynald Colom, the Sant Andreu Jazz Band and the Barcelona Jazz Orchestra. Influenced by Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, and Cannonball Adderley, Jesse Davis exhibits impeccable technique, wide sound, and a natural affinity for the blues. His music has been branded as ‘neo-bop’, but, as he himself says: “the only thing that interests me is to play beautiful music … nobody wants to listen to ugly music!” Well that.
