CHRISTINE RENÉE PRES: JUAN NUNEZ (WAX RECORDS)
It’s the late 90’s Los Angeles. The rave scene has been strong up and down the coast and the DJs there were laying a path in their communities that would lead to legend status. But there is no store, no focal point selling the records these young legends want to play. Everything is hard to get and from far away. In comes Juan Nunez, thankfully creating WAX Records, a store where everyone hung out and a young Doc Martin slung discs. Juan went on to put out a series of tunes on his label, Freestyle LTD, featuring artists such as Walter Gibbons, Maurice Fulton and the Idjut Boys. WAX closed in 2006, but Juan’s never stopped. Known for his collection of rare records and his signature mixing style blending obscure classics and unknowns with elegance so breezy you feel like you’re floating through a dream. A long-time fav of our Head Curator, Christine Renee, don’t miss this rare NY appearance and all vinyl set by a king of the underground.
