THE PSYCHOLOGY OF TRUST
What does "trust" mean exactly? And why does it form the foundation of a satisfying and stable relationship? Can trust exist without vulnerability? In this talk, Dr Veronica Lamarche from the Department of Psychology at the University of Essex, will dismantle the role of trust and dependence in relationships, and why trust and vulnerability are essential if love is going to flourish.
As the saying goes, "only love can break your heart." Relationships are a delicate balance between risk and reward: A caring partner can provide us with love, support, and affection, while a callous one can cause pain, rejection and disappointment. In order to reap the benefits relationships can offer, it is necessary to open oneself up to the vulnerability of trusting and depending on another person.
