Joe Henderson’s Mode For Joe performed live at Mirth.
The 1966 Joe Henderson Blue Note classic Mode For Joe was recorded at a time of sweeping musical changes due to developments in free jazz, soul jazz and fusion. A prime example of where the future of jazz was going in the mid-sixties, "Mode for Joe" is a ground-breaking album, and one whose influence, having been absorbed by a subsequent generation of players, can still be heard echoing through the jazz of today, regularly quoted by the likes of Brandford Marsalis, Joe Lovano and Joshua Redman.

Citing John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins and Lee Konitz among his musical influences, Sam’s ability to marry his understanding of past masters with contemporary styles keeps him constantly in demand and has taken him to stages at the EFG London Jazz Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Kragujevac Jazz Festival (Serbia) and WDR Festival (Cologne).
