THE BEATLES' ABBEY ROAD 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Back in 2017, The Midnight Special performed two sold out Jazz Cafe shows to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, faithfully reproducing the record note for note, accompanied by a full string section.
The Midnight Special return to The Jazz Cafe stage to perform The Beatles seminal White Album LP. Once again, playing the double album in full, 50 years to the day after the original release of the record on 22nd November 1968.
Flying back to London after the group’s famous India trip in the spring of 1968, The Beatles returned to Abbey Road in May of that year. The band called upon producer George Martin to start work on their ninth studio album & over the next few months they would go on to cut tracks as varied as ‘Back In The USSR’, ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’, ‘Helter Skelter’, ‘Happiness is a Warm Gun’, ‘Revolution’, ‘Dear Prudence’, ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da’ & many more…
The 30 tracks that make up the double LP changed pop music forever, with Observer journalist Tony Palmer writing: “If there is any doubt that Lennon & McCartney are the greatest songwriters since Schubert, this album should surely see the last vestiges of cultural snobbery & bourgeois prejudice swept away in a deluge of joyful music making….”
