Following six months of in-depth music industry mentorship, the Year 2 of Gilles Peterson’s Future Bubblers are ready to take to the stage. Announced in December 2016, the nine artists have been paired with industry mentors tailored to their ambitions and musical approach. Aided by their mentors, along with advice and support from the Future Bubblers team, artists have honed their music and already found a bigger platform for what they’re doing.
Organised by Future Bubblers and Brownswood Music, each show will see a mixture of live music and DJ sets from the nine candidates. Reflecting the mission statement of Future Bubblers, the shows will be celebrating left-of-centre, independent music. Supported by funding from Arts Council England, the programme works with emerging musical talents to help them develop their music and navigate the music industry. The second year of artists to join the programme, this is the first opportunity to see all of them playing together.
Choosing focus cities outside of London for each of year of the programme, it’s part of a goal to nurture talent outside of the UK capital. Partnering with likeminded organisations in each city, it’s a means of encouraging audiences for independent music. Year 1 of the programme included the likes of MC Snowy — leading the charge for grime in Nottingham —and 6 Music- supported supported Yazmin Lacey.
Presented by Future Bubblers.
