The **Vex Collection**, featuring recently relocated-to-LA Korean double reeds virtuoso **gamin**, plays the 2220 theater. **Eyving Kang & Jessika Kenney** open the night, performing new work from their soon-to-be-released LP *Azure* on Idelogic Organ.

Imagining alternate pasts, presents, and futures, **The Vex Collection** uses unheard-of combinations of traditional instruments, newly devised musical contraptions, and a philosophy of mad-scientific experimentation in their exploration of uncharted sonic space. The project is led by **Mat Muntz** (bass, various bagpipes, homemade woodwinds) and **Vicente Hansen Atria** (drums, gongs, electronics), with **Alec Goldfarb** on guitar, and features Korean woodwind virtuoso **gamin** on piri, taepyeongso, and saenghwang.

The Vex Collection began in 2018, inspired by Mat and Vicente’s shared fascination with the double reed. This ancient musical technology was developed by virtually every culture on Earth in order to produce loud, brilliant, and beautifully intense sounds. Through collaborating with gamin and experimental bagpiper Matthew Welch for their first album, surprising affinities were discovered between the musical worlds of Scotland and Korea, both of which feature double reed instruments as central cultural icons.

Having each followed their own distinct trajectory of exploration for decades - interweaving rigorous experimentalism with transcultural conversations - and building upon roughly 20 years working as a duo, **Jessika Kenney & Eyvind Kang** return with *Azure*, their third full-length with Ideologic Organ. Among their most riveting outings to date, comprising five new compositions recorded in Seattle during the spring of 2022, this remarkable body of sonority culminates in a singular gesture of contemporary minimalism that slowly unfolds across the album’s length.
