Zoh Amba – the astounding Free Jazz saxophonist from Tennessee – brings her tenor to town to duo with drummer Chris Corsano. Amidst improvisations and her own compositions Amba creates a total realm of expression, from somber meditation to long-form ecstatic runs. Pushing the tenor hard, she sends up screams and guttural skronk that make evident the spiritual devotion that inspires them. Also, upending percussionist Ted Byrnes and famously versatile guitarist Jeff Parker play their duo live for the first time in several years.

**Zoh Amba** is a composer, saxophonist, and flutist from Tennessee. Blending avant-garde, noise, and devotional hymns, her powerfully unique avant-garde music is full of folk melodies, mesmerizing refrains, and repeated incantations. Amba released two records in 2022: her debut record O, Sun – produced by John Zorn and released by his label Tzadik – and Bhakti, featuring Micah Thomas, Tyshawn Sorey, and Matt Hollenberg. She has studied with David Murray, and – among many others – has collaborated with Jim White of Dirty Three and legendary jazz bassist William Parker.

**Chris Corsano** certainly drops jaws with his physical abilities and aesthetic agilities behind the drum kit. But along with the rolls and flurry of percussion are other angles of invention and expression... Corsano's path over two decades has been couched in duo exchange, fiery collaborations that continue to unfurl the Free Jazz flag – such as duos with Paul Flaherty and Joe McPhee, and now Zoh Amba – to latter-day post-genre articulations and obliterations – as with a his projects with Okkyung Lee, Bill Nace, and Bill Orcutt.

**Ted Byrnes** is one of L.A.’s singular improvisors, a percussionist and player whose idiosyncratic vocab of texture and attack breaks the bias of hum-drum drum rhythm and pours out granular sound, dashing dots and stacking crackles. Famously versatile guitarist **Jeff Parker** constantly, fluidly navigates across lines that genre rulemakers like to draw. Though it’s been a few years, the pair have played duo live a handful of times, Parker filling void in Byrnes’ fleeting spatial moments, and deftly interjecting transient themes or a bit of clatter of his own when the racket is dense. Hints of this instant interplay have surfaced via their duo that backs the 2020 clipping. track *(Drove) Eaten Alive*, and their track on Byrnes’ 2021 *Words Have Two Meanings* duo comp.
