Hailing from Manchester, the band’s music is heavily inspired by the groove-based sounds of the early 70’s, and embraces a wide range of influences including world music, dub and psychedelia.

We take time to celebrate one of the most iconic debut albums of any band, 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' performed live by a 10-piece brass band.

It's hard to name a more iconic album related to the indie boom of the mid-noughties. Becoming the fastest selling debut album in UK chart history, the Arctic Monkeys cemented themselves as UK rock royalty.

Our very own brass ensemble bring their 10-piece band to perform the album in full, including 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', 'Marty Bum', 'When The Sun Goes Down' as well as some special extras to round the night off.

**Lolina\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_**

Lolina is an electronic and digital musician, also known for her past projects as Inga Copeland. She was a member of the band Hype Williams between 2009 and 2013, collaborating with Dean Blunt on music, videos and performances. Copeland’s first solo album “Because I’m Worth It” was self-released in 2014. Moving towards digital composition with her Lolina project, she released a full-length video album “Live in Paris” in 2016, followed by “The Smoke” in 2018. Lolina’s live performances evolved through experiments with DJ equipment. Using CDJ players to loop, scratch and manipulate her existing recordings, she developed an improvisational cut up style exemplified on her releases “Live in Geneva”, “Who is experimental music?” (both 2019), and “Fast Fashion” (released on experimental US label, Deathbomb Arc in 2021). Lolina’s three-part radio residency aired on NTS in November 2020. Her most recent album, “Face The Music” was released in September 2022 on Lolina’s own label Relaxin Records.

oxhy is a musician from London. 2021 saw the release of their debut album ‘woodland dance’ an

imagining the futures of lost folk songs. Through collaborations with the likes of Elysia Crampton,

Yves Tumor and Felix Lee, oxhy has birthed a singular take on modern gothic. Their live

performances aim to create an ecstatic group ritual.

Contours is the project of musician, producer and DJ Tom Burford. Based in Manchester, Contours’ sound explores the spaces, rhythms and textures that sit between House, Jazz, Latin, broken-beat and Hip Hop.

Having been exposed to an eclectic range of music from an early age, Contours DJ sets traverse a litany of sounds and influences. Growing up playing drums and percussion, Contours’ productions draw heavily upon this, incorporating rhythms from Africa and Latin America coupled with those more often heard spilling out of dark sweaty basement clubs. This fusion creates an infectious blend of the electronic and the organic, the live and the programmed. Samples, field recordings and live instrumentation all form part of Contours sound and approach, where building a groove is at the core of all his music. Contours sound has seen him find a home on London's Rhythm Section imprint alongside the likes of Al Dobson Jr, Henry Wu and Chaos in the CBD.

Contours has since gone on to release music with labels including Tru Thoughts, Shall Not Fade, Fly high Society, On the Corner and Far out. His productions have received support from the likes of Alex Nut, Mr Scruff, Benji B, Moxie and Cottam.

As well as his productions, Contours sound is channelled via two monthly radio shows on both NTS and Reform Radio where he touches upon music from all over the world.

VMO‘s show is the extreme side of art music. Visuals and intense mosh music invoke violent dancing on the floor and diving off the stage. It’s like black metal meets Kraftwerk and Aphex Twin is invaded by Bxurxum. The total power consumption of a VMO show is 5000 Watts! That is equivalent to 60 amplifiers! VMO aka Violent Magic Orchestra

Beats & Pieces Big Band are one of the most exciting and innovative acts to emerge from the North of England’s fertile jazz and improvised music scene this century. Under the direction of conductor and composer Ben Cottrell, they are at the forefront of a new generation of large jazz and improvising ensembles reimagining and reinventing big band music for the 21st century. As Cottrell says “Beats & Pieces is not your average big band, rather a band that’s big”.

In 2018 Beats & Pieces marked their 10th anniversary with their debut North American tour and the release of live album and concert film ’ten’, combining brand new material with fresh takes on tracks from previous releases. In January 2023 Beats & Pieces release their long-awaited third studio album, ‘Good Days’, and return to the live stage after an enforced break across the Covid pandemic.
