Paper Dress' Independent Venue Week program for 2023 gets off to a thrilling start with a headline from indie-pop supergroup SUEP plus support from Kuntessa & Romeo Taylor.

**SUEP**

Led by Georgie Stott (of Porridge Radio, Garden Centre) and Josh Harvey, SUEP was born out of a near-decade of playing in sheds and barns with like minded personnel, holding a mutual love for Paul McCartney, Jona Lewie, the B-52s, Devo and other performative freaks enjoying themselves.

Following a move to London from Brighton, the pair added George Nicholls (The GN Band, Joanna Gruesome, The Tubs), Will William Deacon (PC World, Garden Centre), and Ollie Chapman to the line-up.

Their debut mini-album 'Shop' is a kaleidoscopic off-kilter pop ride, taking the listener through haunted castles, deprived encounters, days lost to the imagination in bed, and through the integral friendships that give SUEP the energy to keep dancing to their own beat.

Join us on Tuesday 31 Janaury for a very special Independent Venue Week show at Paper Dress Vintage as River Wild launch their new album alongside support from LOVELL and Worldwide Welshman.

**River Wild** is the latest incarnation of singer songwriter Ffion Aynsley. With her powerful and balmy vocals, Ffion's captivating story-telling will be accompanied by a dynamic 5 piece band including lush vocal harmonies, violin, banjo, bass, drums and synth.

Her debut album as River Wild draws inspiration from Welsh & Spanish folk music with hints of psychedelic rock. It is a collection of songs, poetry and stories she has heard, lived and imagined; characters she has met along the way. It was conceived on a little blue boat travelling up and down the Lea and now you are invited to get on board!

**LOVELL**

"Minimalist lo-fi punk vibe with cool acoustic grooves and witty but weird songs about sleazy dreams and domestic chores. Hints of Violent Femmes and The Roches but Lovell are unique and brilliant."

Lovell are a lo-fi alt-pop grunge punk-folk duo based in North London. Lovell consists of singer-songwriter Hannah Lovell on vocals and guitar, with Kid Kirby on drums, vocals and clarinet.

**Worldwide Welshman**

Worldwide Welshman (Liam Rickard) is a pan-global-alt-pop artist based in Machynlleth performing tragi-comic singalongs, multi-lingual party bangers and funk-rock-jazzed up Welsh folk. For this gig in Paper Dress Vintage, Liam will be joined by his London band to perform a mixture of crowd favourites and new material.

Dutch experimental pop musician AMBER ARCADES will be performing music from her new album Barefoot On Diamond Road set for release on 10th February 2022. Characterised by poignant melodies, dreamy vocals and reflective lyrics, Annelotte de Graaf reinvents herself with every album. "Wistful, glowing dream pop" The Guardian

One of Sweden’s most exciting young acts, indie-pop quartet HATER, will be offering up their infectious riffs and bittersweet shoegaze pop following the release of their acclaimed recent album ‘Sincere’ released earlier this year. Evoking My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Deerhunter, their new album is a dazzling piece of aching romanticism destined to feature on a thousand mixtapes.

Opening the bill is THALA, an emerging songwriter, who over the course of the last two years has constantly reinvented herself with each release while touring with the likes of Snail Mail and Current Joys. Over the past few years Fire Records has risen to become one of the world’s leading labels. Fiercely independent and driven by maverick A&R, it has developed into what Billboard described as *“The most elegant Psychedelic Pop label in the World”.*

Alien Tango

Alien Tango is Alberto García, a Spaniard living in London but whose antennas are directed to outer space, from where he receives emissions full of psychedelia, glam, hip-hop, oriental music and helium-infected vocals. Praised by the New York Times after his performance at SXSW festival (he’s also performed at Primavera Sound or Benicàssim, among others) his musical mixture is as unpredictable as it is satisfying, with room for synthesizers, sitars, accordions and anime samples. All of which confirm this unorthodox multi-instrumentalist as one of the most peculiar and fascinating creators in the current London scene.

After releasing their debut album worth a five bomb rating any time, the magical duo that are Jules & Nat are emerging once again from an intense writing and production session to give us a glimpse as to what awaits us in their second album.

A mysterious band emerging from the 27 hemishperes of London, Bande À Part delivers a sound with a foundation of kraut/jazz/rock and a roof made of sombre delrious poetry.

OCEAN LECLAIR

Ocean Leclair is a London based German artist who has a unique style with flourishes of Dream pop, indie rock and spoken word in an eclectic and poetic collage.
