This 2-hour, comprehensive hands-on class teaches you all the basics of screen printing at Vera’s shop: From coating and burning a screen, to pulling your very first print! Get comfortable with Vera's shop layout, equipment, and culture. Learn about techniques for creating screens, terminology, and more to create 1-color projects in the print shop. Students will walk away with the basic skills for screen printing 1-color paper prints, and their own print of a special Vera design, specific to the 101 class.

This class is a prerequisite for other screenprint classes at Vera and access to Open Sessions in Vera's studio. Open Sessions are moderated by members of Vera's Screenprint Committee, and can provide guidance to participants on their projects. Open Sessions are scheduled for three times a month in 4 hour intervals. Participants must pay and register for an Open Session in advance on Vera's website.

This is an all ages event (Under 14 requires adult supervision)

Unfortunately we cannot allow people to bring in their own custom designs for the class. As we have limited space and time, we do not have the capacity. Instead, you can sign up for an Open Session once you've completed the class and work on your custom project at the session!

SP 101: Intro to Vera's Screen Print Studio

Basics of Live Sound is a 2-hour introduction to live audio engineering and an orientation to Vera Project’s methods and equipment. Topics covered include an introduction to microphones and mic placement, signal paths, stands, cables, DI’s, snake, sub-snakes and etiquette for working with bands. This class is designed for both the novices and experts of all ages and will give an overview of signal flow and setting up small PAs, in addition to the basic requirements for being part of the Vera sound team at shows. Discover why the accommodating, open minded “Vera Attitude” of show production is appreciated worldwide.

This class is a prerequisite for advanced audio classes at Vera and Sound Runner shifts at Vera Project show. Each Live Sound class unlocks new audio engineering volunteer shifts at Vera and eventually paid opportunities in and outside of the venue. Become a volunteer at Vera to access other audio-related educational programs such as tours, field trips, and internships.

LS 101: Basics of Live Sound

In this 2-hour workshop, students will have a practical grasp on lighting concepts and console operation, learn about different lighting instruments, and gain hands-on experience programming lights for Vera’s mainstage. Participants of the class will also gain basic fundamental knowledge of working with artists and production staff to elevate the concert experience as a lighting engineer.

Complete this class to be eligible for Lighting Engineer volunteer shifts at Vera shows. Become a volunteer at Vera to access other production-related opportunities!

Intro to Concert Lighting (CL 101)

Do you dream of people wearing your artwork out on the streets? Want to make shirts for your friend’s music project? Level up your fabric printing experience and take home your own printed tote bag in this 3-hour intermediate-level fabric printing class! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore the use-cases for printing on fabric, practice properly setting up on the t-shirt press, and understand different types of fabrics and inks. Students will receive three tote bags to print on, or have the option to bring their own light-colored 100% cotton fabrics to practice on. Students will be printing a Vera specific design, exclusive to the 202 class. *Students must complete Screenprint 101 before attending this class.*

SP 202: Fabric Printing

Creating a good monitor mix is one of the most important tasks for a live sound engineer to achieve. This advanced class will introduce you to digital mixing boards in a low pressure environment. Subjects will include an introduction to Vera’s stage monitors, the basic ‘ringing out’ of monitors, EQing, and setting levels. The use of these techniques will allow you to create a clear monitor mix that will help performers be at their best. After a person has completed the Mixing for Monitors class they are eligible to take on Monitor Engineer volunteer positions at Vera shows. *Students must complete Live Sound 101 to be eligible for this class.*

LS 202: Mixing for Monitors

Get into VERA’s Recording Studio through this 2-hour workshop and studio orientation! Learn the studio infrastructure including, bootup, signalflow, patchbay setup, mixing desk operation, and basic Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) integration. During the session we will experiment with different ways of running signals from the live room to the computer. Some familiarity with Digital Audio Workstations (i.e. ProTools, Logic, Reaper, Ableton, etc.) is encouraged.

After taking this course, students who are new to studio recording should be ready for the multi-week Recording Studio Workshop Series, as well as having a better grounding for independent research. Students who are experienced with studio recording may be credentialed for volunteering at studio sessions.
