Camden Cult Cinema

A pop up cinema, screening cult classics and celebrating music culture is set to arrive in Camden Market

This September, Camden Cult Cinema launches at The Vanguard, a historic Victorian stables with a world class sound system typically reserved for live concerts. The pop up cinema will showcase a range of films spanning all genres of music and generations, celebrating the area’s long standing reputation as the epicentre of alternative culture and rich music heritage.

Among standout events will be the 40th anniversary screening of the Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense (Oct 17th). Unlike typical cinema screenings, this event will transform the space into a dynamic standing gig, recreating the energy and atmosphere of the original concert, and allowing audiences to dance and move as if they were attending the original 1984 live show, in real time.

With Camden’s storied past as a hub for iconic music scenes, from the punk movement of the 1970s to the Britpop explosion of the 1990s, the launch kicks off with its ‘Music Season’ screenings. From September 18th, a line up of films highlighting influential musical artists and legends from Amy Winehouse to Aretha Franklin will showcase. Equipped with a 5m screen and a Danley Sound Labs Synergy Horn system—the cinema will provide an immersive sound experience that complements the visuals on screen. The screenings will continue its themed programming through the year, with Comedy, Country & Western and Horror screenings in time for Halloween.

All screenings begin at 7:30 pm (6pm on Sunday), with films starting at 8:00 pm. A fully serviced bar, popcorn, and gourmet hotdogs will be available for purchase and tickets will be priced at £12 + booking fee.

Camden has always been a haven for those who appreciate the unconventional, a place where music, art, and film intersect in unique and vibrant ways. Camden Cult Cinema offers the next chapter in carrying on Camden’s legacy as a cradle of creativity.
