Dark Trilobite is finally reuniting for their first performance since going off to college. The four musicians - Isabella, Evan, Max, and Sammy - grew up in the DMV area and got together through Bach2Rock’s band program. Since leaving B2R, they’ve developed their own sound that has culminated in releases such as “Wishbone” and “Time Waits For No One.” Just recently, they dropped their newest single “Purple Zaremba,” which will soon be followed by “Devil’s Paradise.”

Those songs that Springer just couldn't part with ended up becoming his critically acclaimed debut record "Truth to Power". Thanks to sudden viral success on Tik Tok and praise from the likes of The Darkness's Justin Hawkins, the 7-track album quickly established Moon Walker as one of rock's most promising acts. \--Baby Bugs is an alternative music project founded by Bowie. After years of being held under the weight of mental illness and emotional abuse, Bowie found that writing their thoughts in the form of a song or poem was the only way they could express their feelings clearly. Bowie released “Hey Bunny” in March of 2021, which surpassed one million streams within 2 months. The sudden success of their music encouraged them to continue to sing and write about their emotions, and continue helping others who experience similar things feel less alone.

Between 1966 and 1970, the American artist Barnett Newman painted a series of four large scale We paintings titledWho’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue. They’re simple, but produce a whole register of feelings, emotions — the color is the subject, the paintings do not represent anything, but only express themselves. How can a canvas saturated in red synthesize something as complicated as fear? It just does. That painting series’ title was a reference toWho's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, a play from the 60s by Edward Albee, which was in itself a reference to "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?", the song from the 30s immortalized in Disney cartoons.

These Newman paintings are the conceptual backdrop of ‘Who Is Afraid ofBlue?,’ the sophomore album of lifelong New Yorkers Eliza Barry Callahan and Jack Staffen’s project Purr. It is in many ways a record about these abstract registers of fear — saturated with emotion, introspection, and that very sense of overwhelm.

‘Who is Afraid of Blue?’ also exists lightly in conversation with a short novel Callahan wrote  
(forthcoming via Catapult, 2024), an auto-fiction document of a woman losing her hearing. And all of it comes back to those Newman works: Purr makes music that functions like those large - scale paintings so very saturated with color. ‘Blue’ is a vast record, with lyrics that bend towards abstraction. But make no mistake: in that abstraction there is intense clarity. Blue is blue: a color, a feeling, a signifier, a way of looking at the world.

Inside Voices founding members I.K. David and Paul Burghard met playing open mic nights in Washington. Connected by a mutual love of guitar-heavy, riff-driven Indie Rock and smooth R&B sounds, the two quickly crafted a repertoire of original music emulating their favorite styles.

Tami Hart’s music career began while still a high school student in South Carolina, when she was signed to Mr. Lady Records, and toured as a supporting act for Le Tigre. At age 18, Hart’s debut album, No Light in August, was described in the NY Times by Ann Powers as being one of the best albums of 2000. During that time, Hart toured in support of Sleater-Kinney, Indigo Girls, The Butchies and many more. Hart moved to San Francisco, forming the post punk band GangWay! (Featuring members of the band No Age). Following a move to NYC, Hart formed two more bands, Winning Looks, recorded by Kathleen Hanna. Hart also formed the Punk meets RnB duo Making Friendz, who’s album Social Life received several notable licensing placements (Last Bummer Records). In 2011, Hart joined the band MEN featuring prominent artist JD Samson of Le Tigre fame. Tami Hart has recently resurfaced as a solo artist, releasing a collection of old and new demos on the Seattle imprint Disc Drive will be releasing her next EP, Thanks For Saying Hi digitally on Cruisin Records.

“Living in a world that wasn’t made for you makes you pretty strong and adaptive, and you find the fun in it,” says Alex Lahey. “It also makes you realize how absurd everything is. With ‘The Answer Is Always Yes,’ I wanted to get weird because the world is weird, and it’s even weirder when you realize you don’t fit into it all the time.”

It’s no secret that the world wasn’t built with most people in mind. For those who exist on the fringe, you learn to pave your own way, foster your own community, and create your own joy. As a queer person and a daughter of migrants, Lahey learned how to adapt to a world that wasn’t made for her, and her third album, The Answer Is Always Yes, examines how she finds comfort in the discomfort, whether it’s reveling in absurdity or turning towards exploration.

Lahey’s debut album I Love You Like a Brother and its 2019 follow-up The Best of Luck Club take their focus from the lens of relationships, but with The Answer Is Always Yes, Lahey analyzes her otherness through different lenses, from its isolating effect to the surrealism and humor it instills.
