Uroš Umek, better known as DJ Umek, is one of those unassuming techno DJs who also happens to be a titan of the underground. He is credited for bringing the electronic music scene to his home country of Slovenia by putting on the first illegal raves in the ’90s. He has since become one of Slovenia’s most sought after musical exports – at home in both underground Berlin techno parties and global festivals. Besides being a behemoth in the DJ booth, he’s also a tireless producer. His imprint, 1605, pumps out most of his releases, more often than not topping the Beatport charts.
