To Moodymann, music videos, press photography or any other sort of self-promotion are deemed a noisy distraction. The only noise he is concerned about is his music, and this dedication to his craft has created a three-decade long career. Euphoric disco samples swirl with the bump of Detroit house snares and kick drums; Motown and gospel are drawn upon and fuelled with tinctures of techno and baritone vocals. Ever-elusive, Moodymann performs with his face distorted by a mask and shades, and his shows are drawn-out odysseys without rules or restraint.
