Kahil El’Zabar Quartet

All the way from Chicago, we are delighted to welcome back Kahil El’Zabar & The New Ethnic Heritage Ensemble.

An artist truly in a league of his own, El’Zabar is a stalwart of spiritual and afro-futuristic jazz with a significant contribution in the continuation of the scene over the last four decades. His driving compositions - simple themes that gain complexity through repetition and improvisation - have been recorded with such heavyweights as Pharoah Sanders, Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, “Light” Henry Huff and Dwight Trible.

Alongside multi-percussionist and vocalist El’Zabar, the New Ethnic Heritage Ensemble’s current line-up includes Corey Wilkes on trumpet - who has worked with numerous jazz masters, including Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Elling and El’Zabar himself for some 15 years - and multi-instrumentalist Alex Harding on baritone sax.

El'Zabar and band will be appearing at St James for no less than the 4th time, and with CoS for the 5th.
