Join us Thursday night for Jongleurs, a night of three electroacoustic entertainments with composers, improvisers and media artists Chris Brown, Johanna Poethig, Ben Davis, and David Poyourow.

The night's program will consist of three sets:

- Meditative solo with homemade instruments: David Poyourow, electroacoustic gongs
- Duo improvisations with Ben Davis (cello) and Chris Brown (piano & electronics)
- RhythmiChrome interactive electronic music by Chris Brown, with video by Johanna Poethig

**CHRIS BROWN**, composer, pianist, and electronic musician, makes music with self- designed sonic systems that include acoustic and electroacoustic instruments, interactive software, computer networks, microtonal tunings, and improvisation. His compositions are designs for performances in which people bring to life the musical structures embedded in scores, instruments, and machines. He has performed and recorded music by Henry Cowell, Luc Ferrari, John Zorn, David Rosenboom, Wadada Leo Smith, Pauline Oliveros, Fred Frith, the Rova Saxophone Quartet, and William Winant, among many others. https://cbmuse.com

**JOHANNA POETHIG** is a visual, public and performance artist who has exhibited internationally and has been creating public art works, murals, paintings, sculpture and multimedia installations for over 40 years. Her practice plays between realism and abstract forms, architectural and intimate scales, historic and present day politics, futurist musings, humor and satire, a feminist point of view, collaborative processes and cultural critique. In her current work, in the midst of climate crisis, the mathematical patterns in nature’s terrestrial and extraterrestrial life systems are expressed by creating experiential landscapes, surrealistic portraits and texts that come together in a speculative storytelling. **BEN DAVIS** fuses his classical, jazz and contemporary music experiences into a raw vehicle of acoustic expression. In the UK he worked with Evan Parker, Louis Moholo, Vincent Courtois, Wadada Leo Smith, Ingrid Laubrock, Simon Nabatov and Bobby McFerrin. His own group Basquiat Strings collaborated with Ellery Eskerlin in the BBC Electric Proms and was nominated for the Mercury Music Awards 2007. He was a member of the London based collective F-IRE and collaborated individually with many of its artists. Most recently he has worked with Tomeka Reid, Mary Halverson, Ben Goldberg, Jim Campilongo, Chris Brown, Zeena Parkins, Gerald Cleaver, William Winant, Roscoe Mitchell and Nicole Mitchell. **DAVID "POY" POYOUROW** started inventing and building original musical instruments in 1977. He learned carpentry, welding and electrical theory from his father as a youth. His interest is in the unique features of a particular material or instrument -- what kind of expression does its design want to make? Tonight features his Electro-Acoustic Gong Rack for your contemplative enjoyment.
