Der südafrikanische DJ und Musikproduzent Black Coffee hat sich in den letzten Jahren als eine der Hauptfiguren in der elektronischen Musikszene etabliert. Geboren als Nkosinathi Maphumulo, begann er seine Musikkarriere Mitte der 1990er Jahre als DJ und Produzent in Südafrika.

2003 veröffentlichte er sein Debütalbum, das seine tiefe, soulige Interpretation von House-Musik präsentierte. Im Laufe der Jahre baute Black Coffee seinen Ruf als einer der innovativsten und respektiertesten DJs Südafrikas weiter aus. Er veröffentlichte mehrere hochgelobte Alben, darunter "Have Another One" (2007), "Home Brewed" (2009), "Africa Rising" (2012), "Pieces of Me" (2015) und "Subconsciously" (2021).

Seit 2015 machte sich Black Coffee auch international einen Namen mit Auftritten bei großen Festivals wie Ultra Miami, Tomorrowland und Coachella. Er ist einer der meist tourenden Künstler weltweit und hält eine seit fünf Saisons laufende, 21-wöchige Residency im Hi Ibiza.

Black Coffee hat mit zahlreichen Künstlern zusammengearbeitet, darunter Drake, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Diplo, RyX und David Guetta. Er gewann 2022 einen Grammy für das beste Dance/Electronic Album für sein sechstes Studioalbum "Subconsciously". Seine Produktionsfähigkeiten wurden durch Remixe für Alicia Keys und seine Zusammenarbeit mit Drake bestätigt. Zudem war er Executive Producer von Drakes Album "Honestly Nevermind".
